Welcome to the Board
We're excited to welcome Peter Harty (l) and Don Jagoe (r) to the Board of Bike Newport. Peter's been a dedicated volunteer for the past year and brings valuable business and technology experience. Don has generously served on numerous other boards and associations in Newport before joining us, and we're happy to report he's Newport's latest bike rack sponsor. Read more about them here.
P.S. The Kids Are Watching
On Monday morning, Executive Director Bari Freeman met with some of Newport's most important road users: our public school bus drivers. Read here to learn about this new partnership and why it's critical for cyclists to stop for school busses.
What better combination than bikes and warm winter wear? Let us be Santa's little helpers on December 13th and 14th, when we'll be staffing Patagonia on Thames's complimentary gift wrapping station. Patagonia will generously donate 10% of all weekend sales to Bike Newport. We'll also have our pedal-powered Jingle Bike set up outside the store. Come to shop, come to pedal the lights, come to celebrate bikes and outdoor gear all winter long!
Thompson Middle School Bike/Walk Challenge Wraps Up With Grand Prizes!
From late October to Thanksgiving break, we worked with Thompson Middle School to promote and inspire more biking and walking to school. Through daily encouragement and weekly raffles, over 25% of the student body participated. On Tuesday, Nov 25th, three winners (pictured above) were drawn from among the students who biked or walked the most during the challenge. Each won a $250 gift certificate to a local bike shop. The Bike and Walk to School Challenge was funded by a generous grant from the Safe Routes to School National Partnership. Celebrate kids moving in the morning!
