Jazz and Social Justice: A Salon with Music

William Parker is a father figure to New York City’s creative-music community. As a composer, bassist, and bandleader he has deepened our idea of free jazz and broadened the possibilities for musicians working in any genre. As a founder of New York’s Vision Festival, and through his wide-ranging collaborations and his poetry and essays, Parker has fostered an uncompromising framework for community organizing and political action through creative arts.

Here, he’ll premiere a new solo bass piece, “Birth of a New World,” and join host Larry Blumenfeld in a panel discussion about improvisation and community building with dancer/choreographer Patricia Nicholson Parker, Brice Rosenbloom, the founder and producer of Winter JazzFest, and Gargi Shindé of Chamber Music America.

A rare and wonderful opportunity for an intimate audience.
