Welcome to the Inaugural FRN Newsletter!

Based at New York University, the Faculty Resource Network (FRN) is a consortium of over 50 colleges and universities that provides professional development opportunities for its partner institutions. The FRN hosts symposia, seminars, and other programming designed to improve the quality of teaching, research, and leadership development at its member and affiliate institutions. Now in our fourth decade, our mission remains clear: to foster connection, collaboration, and collegiality through a partnership of colleges and universities dedicated to faculty development.
The FRN Newsletter will be released quarterly in March, May, September, and December. Please feel free to share the FRN Newsletter with your colleagues! Encourage them to subscribe to receive the FRN Newsletter.

FRN Leadership Initiative

The FRN Leadership Initiative will prepare emerging leaders to transform their own campuses by getting them to recognize opportunities to lead up, down, and sideways. This program will also build a leadership community across the FRN for continuing leaders who want to facilitate change and maximize collaboration within and between institutions. Ultimately, the goal of this program is to contribute to the transformation of the higher education ecosystem. The grant for this initiative requires that participants teach or lead in the core humanities and arts disciplines or from departments strongly inflected by the humanities, such as communication, geography, or anthropology, whose work is primarily based on cultural/historical analysis.

The official launch of the program is in fall 2021. To be notified when the FRN Leadership Initiative application is launched, submit this short form.

FRN Leadership Initiative Spring Book Clubs

This semester, the FRN is evaluating Brené Brown’s Dare To Lead through a book club for the FRN Leadership Initiative. There are numerous books about leadership. This book has been adopted by several leadership initiatives at other higher education institutions because of its focus on emotions in the workplace. This book club series was created to make sure we adopt the best book for the FRN Leadership Initiative. After an application process, the selected cohort of the book club has met for two of four sessions and has had intimate and brave conversations.

We will launch another book club in May to evaluate
Fierce Conversations: Achieving Success at Work and in Life One Conversation at a Time by Susan Scott. The book club will meet for four consecutive Fridays beginning on May 21, June 4, June 11, and June 18 at 11:00 a.m. EST (NYC Time). If you are interested in joining us, apply for the 2nd book club cohort by submitting this form.

Student Exchange Program

The Student Exchange Program works in conjunction with the Faculty Resource Network to provide opportunities for academic exchange to outstanding undergraduates of New York University and, currently, five Network institutions: Morehouse College, Spelman College, the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras campus, the University of the Sacred Heart in Puerto Rico, and Xavier University of Louisiana. Students accepted into the program spend a semester of full-time study at a host campus enjoying an experience unique to these richly historic institutions. The Student Exchange Program is offered during the spring semester of each academic year to students with sophomore or junior standing. Participating students reside in on-campus housing facilities engaging in various campus activities. Many students can satisfy major and other degree requirements while studying at one of the host schools by receiving prior written approval from their academic advisors. FRN Teach Share

FRN Teach Share Spring 2021, a three-day virtual event, took place on Tuesday, January 12 - Thursday, January 14, 2021. We collectively shared what we learned about remote and hybrid/blended learning and teaching due to the impact of COVID-19 on higher education institutions. The program included 30 engaging, 10-minute case-study presentations from 32 speakers representing 13 FRN member institutions. We discussed what worked, what challenges we faced, and the changes we considered for spring 2021. All of the presentations were recorded and are available on the FRN website.
