Bolt of Inspiration - The Funny Thing About Our Connection to the Land
A Weekly D'var Torah from the Dean and Rav of Yavneh - R' Shlomo Einhorn
"דבר אל בני ישראל ואמרת אלהם בבאכם אל הארץ אשר אני מביא אתכם שמה" (Bamidbar 15:18)
“Speak to the Bnei Yisrael and say to them when they come into the land which I will bring them”
Rav Yisrael Meir Kagan, AKA the Chafetz Chaim, used to speak Shabbos night in shul on the weekly Torah portion. One year, parshas Shelach, the Chafetz Chaim spoke about this verse. His interpretation was a unique one: “Speak to the Children of Israel and say to them ‘when you come into the land, do know that it is because I brought you there.” This novel way of reading the verse lends us an essential perspective on how we relate to the Land of Israel. We are there because G-d wants us there. If G-d does not want us there then we aren’t there. Rav Mordechai Druk Zt”l, one of the great darshanim of this previous generation said that we see how much our fortune in Israel is tied into G-d’s Will. In the 1940’s when we simply used metal and knocked on copper to simulate the sound of a bullet our enemies ran for the hills. But in our times many great tanks and fighter jets couldn’t instantaneously stop Hamas. Our permission to be in the land is solely commensurate to the level that G-d wants us here.

Dr. Leila Bronner's weekly shiur will continue this week, June 13 at 5:00 PM at her home, 180 N. Las Palmas Ave. Any love that depends on a specific cause, when that cause is gone, the love is gone; but if it does not depend on a specific cause, it will never cease. What sort of love depended upon a specific cause? – The love of Amnon for Tamar. And what did not depend upon a specific cause? – The love of David and Jonathan. This week the shiur will discuss the importance of the love between Jonathan and David and in general the value of love toward G-d between humans like David and Jonathan. Looking forward to seeing you. All are welcome.
