The sun has finally decided to come out after weeks of rain, so let's enjoy the start of spring by marching on over to Coastal Fund and getting ahead of grant deadlines! If you are devoted to keeping our coast beautiful this spring, we want to partner with you for your next project, proposal, or event. Here are some ways to stay in front of the game during the last quarter of the school year! 

Coastal Fund's Spring Grant Deadlines!

Our deadline for our Major Grant Application is drawing closer, so make sure to plan ahead.

Major Application due date: April 14, 2017
Minor Application
 due date: May 19, 2017

Spring is the final funding cycle for the 2016-2017 academic year. Major grant applications are intended for proposals seeking more than $1,000 whereas minor grant applications are for those seeking less than $1,000. To be eligible, a project must further the Coastal Fund mission be overseen by a UCSB department or be part of a registered non-profit or government agency and take place within the Santa Barbara area.

Gaviota: The End of Southern California (Movie Trailer)
Gaviota Makes a Splash at SBIFF!

We are proud to announce that, Gaviota: The End of Southern California, a film sponsored in part by the Coastal Fund, saw great success at the 2017 Santa Barbara International Film Festival! 

Filmed over the course of five years, this film leads audiences from the ocean floor of the Santa Barbara Channel to the peaks of the jagged Santa Ynez Mountains. This wild journey crosses paths with breaching humpback whales, elusive white tailed kites, and nocturnal mountain lions. This feature film explores one of the most threatened biodiversity hotspots in the world, so learn more about our local coast and check it out!
Coastal Fund Winter Photo Contest: "Tidepool Duel" Deadline Approaching!

With the start of March already here, make sure to sure to submit your photos of our beautiful coast! Our "Tidepool Duel" invites you to showcase creatures, shells, and any other surprises you have found along our beaches. 

Don't watch from the tidelines, join in on the fun for a chance to win...

Your photo featured on our website, Facebook, Instagram and more!
A gift basket filled with Coastal Fund merchandise, eco-friendly items, and other cool surprises. 

Can't decide on which photo to submit? Don't worry, there are no limits on the number of entries! You can submit photos to our Facebook page or send them on over to by Friday, March 10th. 
Student Groups...
Need Funding?

Looking for a great way to spend your first spring days? Need funding for your UCSB student group? You can do both by keeping our beaches clean, restore our habitats, and receive funding through the Coastal Service Program!

Gather at least 10 volunteers from your organization, and earn $100 dollars for 2 hours of beach or street cleanup, or $200 for 2-3 hours of restoration work with one of our local environmental organizations! All supplies are provided, so all you have to do is show up!

Introducing Our New Outreach Coordinators!

Meet An Nguyen and Peter Min, our new outreach coordinators!

An Nguyen is a second year Environmental Studies and History of Art and Architecture double major hoping to promote awareness and engage the community on protecting the beautiful coast that we call home. 

Peter Min is a third year Environmental Studies major with an emphasis on Biostatistics, who has a passion for the ocean and our coast, and hopes to preserve its beauty.
