Blackbeard Pirate Festival

Saturday-Sunday, June 1-2; 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturday, noon-6 p.m. Sunday; Downtown Hampton. Join the swashbuckling fun on the waterfront. Immerse yourself in early 1700s Hampton while enjoying live entertainment, battles, fireworks, children’s activities and more. Free. Grand Pirates’ Bash, Friday, May 31, at the Historic Post Office, 132 W. Queen St., 7:30-10:30 p.m. will kick off the fun. Tickets for bash $35/$40. Information.


Steampunk: Visions of Futures Past

Saturday, June 2, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, June 3, 1-5 p.m., Hampton History Museum. Experience the fantastical craftsmanship from an alternative Victorian era. Celebrate the Exposition of Marvels during a special evening event with belly dancers, sideshow demonstrations and other curious amusements Saturday, June 2, 6-9 p.m. Tickets $10 advance/$12 at door. Bodacious Bazaar & Wine Festival 

Friday-Sunday, May 31-June 2; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Friday and Saturday; 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday; Hampton Roads Convention Center. More than 200 vendors, artists, crafters, several of Virginia’s finest wineries and beer gardens convene under three large tents. $4-$10. Information.
 

Remembrance Day 2019

Saturday, June 8, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Buckroe Beach. Presented by The Sankofa Projects, this day honors the millions of African men, women and children who perished during the Middle Passage of the transatlantic slave trade. Information.
 

Hampton Jazz Festival

Friday, June 28-Sunday, June 30, Hampton Coliseum. Top entertainers include Maxwell, KEM, Anthony Hamilton, The Gap Experience, and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. $76. Tickets.
 

Fort Monroe Fun and Fireworks

This traditional Fort Monroe event includes live music, food vendors, family-friendly activities and a spectacular fireworks show launched from a platform in Mill Creek. Earlier in the day, visitors can visit the beaches, picnic areas, campground, fishing pier, waterfront restaurants and craft brewery. Free. Information.
 

Crabtown Seafood Festival

Saturday, Aug. 17, 11 a.m.-7 p.m., Mill Point Park. Seafood vendors, fishing boats and educational bay exhibits will line the downtown waterfront, honoring Hampton's history as a town built by seafood. Free. Information.
 

Hampton 2019 Commemoration of the arrival of the first Africans 

Participate in commemoration activities Aug. 23-25 in recognition of the first arrival of Africans in English North America, at Point Comfort (present-day Fort Monroe).

Buckroe Beach Farmers Market

Saturdays through Nov. 16, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Buckroe Beach Gazebo. Vendors will sell local produce, baked goods, sausage, seafood, jarred food items and more. Sept. 21 will be vintage-themed, and Oct. 19 is a pet market. Information.
 

Downtown Hampton Block Party

Saturdays, through Aug. 31, 6-10:30 p.m., Queens Way. Rock to local and national acts, including Natural Wonder, Buckshot, The Deloreans and Slapnation. Don't miss the Rolling of the Bulls July 13 and the Waiters Race July 28 before the music starts. Free. Information.
 

Music by the Bay Concert Series

Thursdays, June 6-Aug. 29, 7 p.m., Fort Monroe. Hear a variety of military bands, youth bands and community orchestras. Bring your beach chairs and blankets and have a picnic. Free. Information.

 

Front Porch Music Series

Every third Wednesday of the month, 6-8 p.m., Hampton History Museum. Local bands offer a taste of various musical genres. Free to museum members, $5 for non-members. Information.
 

Peninsula Pilots games

Season runs through Aug. 2. Enjoy a fun evening at War Memorial Stadium and root for the Peninsula Pilots. All home games begin at 7:05 p.m. Dates vary. Tickets $3-$5. Information.
 

Hampton One exhibit

June 29-December 2020. Hampton History Museum. Celebrate the classic sailboat design. $5. Information.


Summer Reading Club: Reading Takes You Everywhere
