Google Releases Photos
Google released Photos this week, their new photo service labeled "free" by most photo bloggers. Of course, it's not free. You trade quite a bit for the storage and maintenance Google offers. Remember, Google is an ad company. You are not their customer, you are their product. The only thing that's changed is now they REALLY want your photos as a part of their product package.

Don't Be an "Award Winning" Photographer
"One of the most pervasive and harmful effects of competition is the mindset that it is more important to strive to be better than others, by the arbitrary opinion of someone else, than to simply make yourself into the best that you can be." Guy Tal explains one of the many reasons competitions and critiques (for amateurs especially) are nonsense.

Save All Your Photos, Especially the Bad Ones
This is a great point. The only "honest" timeline of our lives at this point may be our piles of unedited photos. It certainly isn't on social media.

Self-Published Photo Books Go from Last Resorts to Museum Treasures
This is the one (honest) area of book publishing that doesn't seem to be hurting. It makes total sense. Books are becoming a luxury item. Treat them as such and readers will respond. (via Andy Adams)
