Hi there, let’s get into it.
Too often, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) work is grouped under human resources - the risk management arm of organizations. Too often, DEI work relies on the sweat equity and the emotional tax of the already unheard and overlooked. Too often, DEI work stops at resource management groups and mission statements. Too often, DEI work revolves around the bottom line.
Instead, DEI work should follow the lead of marginalized voices. It should allow time for reflection, honesty, vulnerability, and thinking differently. It should create brave spaces. It should be teamwork, not other people's work.
After all, DEI work is about character, legacy, and lives.
Being committed to justice, it is our responsibility is to investigate our respective privileges and do the work. This week's newsletter provides resources on successfully advocating for structural and interpersonal improvements in the workplace.
Let's learn and engage with justice in mind.
