Board of Directors Message
Welcome:
All of the newly elected Board Members arrived at the last meeting with new ideas, eager faces, energy, and a willingness to co-operate and work together. Key positions were voted on and the new Vice-president is Lloyd Nelson and the new secretary is Clyde Christian. A suggestion of a “Keep the Change” collection program be instituted. Funds already collected under the building fund banner could be the start of this campaign and we would notify the membership of what we are looking to use the funds for. The first project will be a two door cooler for the bulk area.

I was born and raised in Portland. My wife Mari and I have been married over a quarter century and we have raised eight children and have three grandchildren. In 1992 I was selected to participate in Safeway's retail career development center with about twenty-five other assistant managers. After completion of that, I was the first of that group to get promoted to store manager. I successfully managed four stores in the Portland area before my wife and I decided we wanted to get out if Portland to a rural location and after notifying my boss of that desire I was asked to take over the Baker City Safeway in 2005. We moved here and have enjoyed living here since! In 2014 I experienced some changes in my health that lead to my early retirement after 36 years with Safeway!

I have been a member of the Co-op for over 29 years and have been recommending people to shop there from the beginning. I have participated in the Tasting Fairs and have supported the cause of better health which is the underlying purpose of the Co-op. I am writing a series of articles for the newsletter on healing. I am now an empty-nester for the first time in 34 years and felt I would be able to use some of that time to help an organization that I have always supported but not contributed a lot of time to. I have been a chiropractor and in the business of health for 30 years this October. I know and teach nutrition, toxin removal, supplementation, allergy/sensitivity clearing and many other facets of health that could be helpful in the Co-op. I know Baker City and its people and feel I could work with other businesses to promote a healthier environment.
The next Board of Directors meeting is June 20th at 6 pm, at the Baker City Library. All members are welcome to attend. Comments and suggestions are always welcome!
