We're Thankful for You!

This season, as we're distributing local products throughout Virginia and D.C., making our last Fresh Farmacy and Farm to Workplace deliveries of the year, and preparing for our annual partner producer meeting, we are feeling thankful for you and all you've done to help us strengthen our local food system.

We are also thankful for the businesses and organizations that support our work. Below are a few delicious, local holiday gift ideas that also support Local Food Hub programs.

Eight dollars from each box sold benefits Local Food Hub’s farm to school efforts to increase access to local food in our schools. You can order these beautiful gift boxes online, and have them sent directly to your friends and family. Each box includes Virginia cheeses, almond and olive oil crackers, apples, peanuts, hard cider, caramel candy, chutney, and peppermint bark.

Virginia Feast! gift box enables you to give local, and give back to your local farming community! And, check out their Virginia Breakfast Box, which includes Mudhouse Coffee Roasters Local Food Hub Blend (see below).

Our Local Commons, Volume 3

Our Local Commons is a team of storytellers who weave intimate images and captivating prose into powerful, personal portraits. Their third book on Charlottesville focuses on a city at the forefront of the nation’s artisan food revival. Here, the community’s sustained interest in local foodways, combined with the tireless efforts of its talented growers, producers, and chefs has created a thriving economy that reveals the rich possibilities of artisanal food in America. You will find 16 new feature-length stories, 8 cooking tutorials, and 30+ tested recipes.

The book features Local Food Hub’s Fresh Farmacy Program, which provides produce “prescriptions” to low-income health patients in Charlottesville. Find Our Food

Give to Local Food Hub

Mother Nature was especially tough on Virginia farmers this year. The 2016 growing season began with a late frost, killing or damaging many crops, followed by a month of rain, which prevented the planting of many crops and rotted the ones that were planted, followed by extreme heat and a very warm fall. Despite the challenges small farms face, the support from our community enables us to stand by our partner farms. That means helping them find alternative crops to offset their unexpected loss, committing to purchase what they are able to grow, and distributing their harvest to those who need it most in our community.

Now more than ever, your investment in Local Food Hub is critical to strengthening our local economy, environment, and public health. In the coming year, we’ll continue to increase access to fresh, nutritious food by building on educational services for our partner farms and working with more health clinics, schools, institutions, and community organizations. If these things are important to you, help us do more in the coming year by making a gift today.

Local Food Hub is a nonprofit organization that partners with Virginia farmers to increase community access to local food. After seven years, we're still a thriving distribution network for local food, but we are also so much more: a leader in the farm to school movement, a donor to regional food banks, a guide for businesses, a resource for farmers, and a catalyst for fresh ideas for how our community feeds itself.

Join us in our efforts of providing access to farm sourced food for everyone.
