 Domestic violence candlelight vigil tonight

Candle lighting vigils for victims and survivors of family and domestic violence will be held around the country tonight. In Brisbane, the vigil happens at the Roma St Parklands Amphitheatre at 5.30pm.
At least one woman is killed every week in Australia by an intimate partner. Children are also victims in these homicides.
The vigils are being held as a national day to remember those who have died as a result of family and domestic violence and come at the beginning of Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Month.

Since 2005 candle lighting vigils have taken place annually across Australia with the first being held in Queensland and organised by fifteen members of the Queensland Domestic Violence Network.
The Brisbane Domestic Violence Service is an activity of Micah Projects who is the lead agency for this years’ vigil partnering with DV Connect, Red Rose Foundation Queensland Police, Q Super, Immigrant Women’s Support Service Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Service and Challenge DV
