Yes, it's been far too long since we sent a newsletter but 2018 was an interesting year full of change and growth for manhattans.

I'm very excited to formally introduce you to our new chef, Kyle Smith. Kyle joined our team in September and rolled out a new menu on Oct. 17/18. A momentous day and an even more delicious menu. This was a big step for manhattans. Never before have we had a chef-driven kitchen. Our philosophy has stayed the same, fresh, from scratch, and locally sourced food whenever possible. Of course, we still have our delicious designer pizzas with some new toppings to try but we've really raised the bar.  Change isn't always easy but we've learned it can be mighty tasty ;)

Kyle hails from Milton. He trained at George Brown and has worked as a cook in Ireland, Whistler, downtown Toronto (5 yrs) and Guelph, which he now calls home.

Our new favourites include the Mussels, Steak Tartare, Arctic Char, Beef Cheek Pappardelle + Sonny Rollins Pizza.

Manhattans and our new menu was recently highlighted in TOQUE Magazine - The Food Issue. If you haven't already, pick one up! This recycled paper rag is pretty special and we feel so honoured to have been a part of it from the start. Chris Tiessen + Cai Sepulis are the dream team that have worked so hard to make this regional lookbook a reality. It's a source for everything local + fun - a true celebration of community, ideas, and creativity. Inspiring. Truly.

In addition to a new website, 2018 also brought us into the 21st century with online reservations! If you are a group of 8 or more, it is still recommended that you call to make your reservation but we do hope that you enjoy the convenience of reserving a table online, anytime! The Indonesian Pizza has returned for a limited time. This pizza is the reason this newsletter began as everyone wanted to be notified of when we'd be serving it up. Made with a spicy peanut sauce base and topped with fresh mango, snow peas, mozzarella, and kecap manis marinated chicken - it's a true favourite!

We are the new hosts of momondays - Guelph starting this Mon. Jan. 28. This ticketed event will be the last Monday of every month. 

What is momondays you ask?

Arts Everywhere Festival (Jan. 24-27)
Manhattans has sponsored The Guelph Lecture - On Being Canadian since its' inception. This event is now just one of many over the course of The Arts Everywhere Festival program happening in Guelph this weekend! Check out their program for a full list of events.

Matt Weidinger Trio - March 8
This Valentine's Day we are excited for The Ault Sisters' debut performance @ manhattans. These Toronto-based vocal jazz trio are sisters – Amanda, Alicia, and Alanna. They are known for their signature close harmonies, reminiscent of such past vocal groups as The Manhattan Transfer, The Andrew Sisters and The McGuire Sisters. Reservations are highly recommended.
MONDAYS @ Manhattans

In house DJ Edwin 'the cat' spins all vinyl on Mondays as part of our Soul Kitchen Mondays. Jazz, soul, and a bit of funk are guaranteed. Great vibes - you just can't help but bop to the beat. You can also enjoy a classic manhattan pepperoni pizza + pint of Hacker for $15. The next Soul Kitchen Mondays are Feb. 4 + 11.
NEW ART SHOW - Nancy Farrell

Nancy Farrell's abstract and expressive contemporary paintings are full of colour + emotion.

Her process: "I enter into the “space” of each blank canvas with no agenda. My painting begins by applying random colours, lines and shapes onto canvas or paper. The painting surface develops slowly with layer upon layer of paint. Personal symbols are often included as imagery evolves. Images flux, and motion becomes visible."
Finally, I'd like to personally thank you for your continued love and support of manhattans. Many of you have noticed my absence from the shop over the course of the year. I've been taking the time to refresh and get my health in order. 25 years is a long time in this business, folks.....but I'm honestly excited about getting back to work, eating all of Kyle's delicious creations, and very much look forward to reconnecting with all of you in 2019.
