Sue Johnston has been seconded one day per week to CCPS from Loretto Care where she works as Service Development Lead for SDS. Sue will focus within the WDN team on the workforce development priorities associates with SDS.

Centered on the theme engagement at a variety of levels, this recent Workforce Development Network event highlighted the network team’s plan for the year ahead. The workshops covered pay and conditions, the SSSC Fitness to Practice model, Leadership and workforce engagement in relation to Integration.

Revised SDS Workforce Project
With renewed Scottish Government funding, the SDS Workforce Project is set to continue for another year, but with fewer work streams. The Workforce Development Network will remain fully involved and there will be plenty of opportunities for voluntary sector providers to learn, contribute and connect with partners in the months ahead.

Learn on the go with SSSC’s digital learning resources
The Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) has developed a number of free digital resources that contribute to learning and development in the social service sector covering different aspects of care and support, including apps on SDS, SVQ’s, Modern Apprenticeships and the safe administration of medication. Furthermore, the SSSC will help you pilot the use of mobile technology in your organisation.

Health and Social Care Integration – Are things changing in the workforce?
Nearly two years ago in an effort to influence the Bill, the Workforce Development Network submitted a position paper on the workforce issues for our sector that were associated with health and social care integration. We now need your help to identify if and where things are beginning to change for the workforce as integration gains traction.

Opportunity to contribute to IRISS/Guardian Workforce Research
To understand the experiences, attitudes and outlook of the social services workforce in Scotland, IRISS, in partnership with the Guardian has put together the View from Here survey.  The survey closes at the end of June and, so far the responses form the voluntary sector have not reflected the size of our sector.
