Dear Kimberly,

A couple of weeks have passed since we presented checks to the Emory Vaccine Center, Jerusalem House and Positive Impact, but the palpable feeling that we were all part of something much larger than ourselves still lingers.  The milestones reached on the 2012 AV200 were amazing and everyone should be exceedingly proud to have been a part of it.  From Rider, to Volunteer, to Donor, to Sponsor - it was truly a collective effort.

Many of you were unable to join us Saturday night of the ride, when we presented the top fifteen (15) fundraisers with the coveted yellow jersey. So with no further ado, here they are:

Craig Fisk - Jerusalem House Riders - $12,230.00
Todd Wiggins - Atlanta Guys Cycling - $6,502.00
Ellis Dixon - Team SPR - $6,160.00
Ken Mallernee - Taylor English - $5,999.00
Chuck Podgurski - Pedal Pushers - $5,773.06
Michael Martin - Taylor English - $5,363.00
Susan Ray - Saint Mark - $5,197.00
Belva White - Saint Mark - $5,100.00
Greg Parnell - $5,050.00
Matthew Mitchell - Team Coca-Cola - $4,767.00
David Osborn - $4,736.00
Bret Busch - Team Coca-Cola - $4,594.00
Frederick Metzger - Jerusalem House Riders - $4,556.00
Tracy Daugherty - Puget Sound Riders - $4,268.00
Christopher Heard - Pushin' It Peddlers - $4,200.00

Thank you for your contributions to AV200; we wouldn't have been able to present nearly $1.3 million to our beneficiaries over the past ten years without you! As we close out the 2012 ride, we'd like to send a special "thanks" to our outgoing Senior Ride Director, Leon Morales, for his dedication and leadership this past year. The torch is being passed to Greg Shoemake, and incoming Junior Ride Director, Chris Bess... who has a few words to share:

For those of you who may not have met me, I am Chris Bess, and I have joined the Steering Committee and Greg Shoemake as Co-Ride director for the 2013 AV200.I first became involved with Action Cycling and the AV200 when I was asked at the last minute to volunteer on the ride back in 2008.  At the time I had no idea what I was getting into, but knew that a 5:00 call time on a Saturday morning was insane!  The lack of sleep aside – that experience was truly life changing.  What I witnessed in my time at Emory and out on the route working pit stops was enough for me to know that this was something special and I wanted to be a part of it.  The next year I joined the Steering Committee and over the past several years as I have been involved in various capacities have watched this organization continue to grow and make a very measurable and significant contribution to the EVC and its research, to Jerusalem House and Positive Impact and the services they provide, as well as to the greater community as a whole. The accomplishments you all were able to make this year were amazing, and it was a very fitting and exciting way to mark our 10th year.  As remarkable as that was, I know we can do more.  I refuse to believe that the impact we will have will begin to diminish at all in the coming years, because I know the heart of the people who are the AV200 and I know how we love a challenge.  It is going to be an awesome year!  Don’t miss being a part of it.  YOU are the RIDE!
Registration for the 2013 ride is now open! Rider registration is $75 from now until January 1, when it will go up to $100. Make it part of your resolutions this year to make a change, whether it is for furthering AIDS vaccine research, or for personal fitness! We look forward to seeing you on the road...

Pedal on,
