Not all RNA extraction kits are created equal

...especially when it comes to reliable isolation of RNA from 3D microtissues.  As the name implies, microtissues can contain very few cells, making it difficult to reliably obtain high-quality RNA from such small samples.  Success can vary greatly from one commercial extraction method to another.  In collaboration with Promega, we've optimized manual and automation-compatible protocols that yield 3-5 ng of high RIN-value RNA from single microtissues containing ~1000 cells.
