Call for Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) User Proposals
The call for CNM user proposals is open. Proposals are due October 26. There is no fee to submit and facility access is provided at NO COST for research that is in the public domain and intended for publication.

The CNM provides industry and academic researchers with access to a broad range of capabilities for design, synthesis, characterization, and theory and modeling in order to significantly advance the understanding of nanoscale phenomena and develop functional nanoscale systems.

CNM JOINS THOUSANDS OF CHEMISTS FROM AROUND THE WORLD

CNM joined thousands of chemists from around the world at the 2018 American Chemical Society National Meeting in Boston, MA.

ANDY WEIR, AUTHOR OF "THE  MARTIAN," VISITS ARGONNE AND CNM
During his Argonne visit, Weir toured CNM, the Argonne Leadership Computing Facility (ALCF), the Advanced Photon Source and Argonne’s Electrochemical Discovery Laboratory, where scientists seek to uncover next generation batteries.

Weir’s visit culminated in a panel during which he joined CNM Nanoscientist Ani Sumant, ALCF Director of Science Katherine Riley and Argonne Materials Scientist Jason Croy. The group discussed the power of storytelling and the links between science fiction and scientific research.

ADVANCED DIAMOND TECHNOLOGIES RESEARCH AT CNM PAYS OFF

“I spent many years in advanced diamond technologies, working with the CNM to develop diamond-based products for applications ranging from biomedical devices to X-ray zone plates, which is work that continues to this day. Without the CNM, none of this work would have been possible. ADT [advanced diamond technologies], an Argonne spinoff had a $100 million impact on Will County in Illinois and is a direct example of the CNM paying off.”

CNM WELCOMES MATHEW CHERUKARA
We are pleased to welcome Dr. Mathew Cherukara to the Center for Nanoscale Materials as an assistant scientist with the Electron and X-Ray Microscopy group.

After receiving his doctorate in Materials Engineering at Purdue University, Mathew worked as an assistant physicist at Argonne's Advanced Photon Source. Mathew focuses on machine learning, generative A.I., deep neural networks, 4-D operando and ultra-fast pump-probe X-ray diffraction imaging and Bragg Coherent Diffraction Imaging.
