The Low-Down on the What's Up with JHSC

Howdy!  JHSC is firing on all cylinders as we blast through our busiest time of year.  Athletes are traveling near and far in search of the gold, the glory, and great life experiences.  There's a lot of important and interesting information in this month's newsletter so make sure to scroll all the way down.  ...Oh, and remember in the last newsletter when we mentioned a presentation by Brian Krill?  Well, you probably figured out there was no presentation last night.  We have rescheduled, so read on for the new date and details because you're not going to want to miss it.

JHSC Alumni Spotlight- Megan Grassell
Megan Grassell, CEO and Founder of Yellowberry is a former JHSC alpine racer.  After recently being featured in an article on Forbes.com, we caught up with her to find out what kind of a role JHSC played in her life.  Here's what she had to say:

"In terms of my experience with the JH Ski & Snowboard Club: I have honestly felt more similarities with Yellowberry and the JHSC than with Yellowberry and anything else.  I learned self-discipline, work ethic and tenacity from racing.  Perhaps more than anything else, I also learned that to attempt to do something really great not only takes time and is incredibly challenging, but it does not get easier.  The challenge continues every day, but that’s what makes it incredibly fulfilling and meaningful.  I believe that growing up ski racing prepared me for what I’m doing today better than anything else I could have done."

Brian Krill Presents:
The State of Sport in JH, the US & The World

  • 7pm - 7:30pm Questions/Discussion

Volunteers- WE LOVE YOU!!
Many volunteers (and parents and athletes) braved sub zero temps to help out during our busy January event schedule.  We truly appreciate everything our volunteers do for the Club!  Without their hundreds and hundreds of volunteer hours, we would not be able to put on our 30+ home events each season.  These events are a ton of work and truly are a community effort, so thanks again to everyone who helps make them run smoothly.

That said, we still have many volunteer positions to fill for the rest of the season.  Please click HERE to sign up for a position/event that works for you.  Thank you!  Photo: Long time JHSC supporters and volunteers, Shannon Owens & Sue Bybee making sure things run smoothly at a recent Snow King Race.

Still time to Rally the Freeride Program!
Only 9 days left support the Freeride Program's RallyMe campaign. The campaign is to help support the effort to build competition-level terrain parks in Jackson Hole. The goal is $10,000 and our friends at Aion Board Shop of Jackson Hole have generously offered a $5,000 match to help us reach that goal.  Please consider rallying behind the Freeride Program athletes by supporting this campaign and sharing it through your social media channels.  Thank you for supporting the young rippers of the JHSC Freeride Program!

JHSC Academics
JHSC Academic Coordinator Grace Tirapelle is a true "road" scholar after making the trip with the Alpine U16 team to the Soldier Mountain Downhill Camp and Race from Jan 22-25. Student athletes put in long, productive days, getting in lots of training runs on a challenging downhill course and studying in the evenings to start off strong in the new school semester.  This represents the continued commitment of the JHSC to support the academic-athletic balance for all its student athletes.

The JHSC Academic Program is very proud to announce the Jackson Hole Middle School student-athletes who have made the school's Honor Rolls for their first-semester grades. Our athletes work hard on and off the snow, and we're proud of their commitment to both academic and athletic excellence. Click image to the right to see full Honor Roll.
