The Prez Sez
Hey all, the Prez has not been Sezzing for quite a while. My apologies to all, especially Stacey who has been on my case each and every month to get something to her before she sends out the newsletter.

This year I celebrate 30 years in the industry and I can’t believe how much I still enjoy it. Early in my career there were plenty of stinker birthday party shows that could have derailed me from doing this. I realized however that the stinker shows were rarely because of what I did at the show, but more often because of the adults that were there. Example: Back in the 80’s I was in the scrap metal business together with my Dad. One of the people we sold scrap to was at a birthday party I was at. He knew that I performed as a clown but didn’t know my performing name. As soon as I arrived, he recognized me despite the make-up and said out loud “Hey its Dave the Clown” I responded “My name is D Jay” His response “No you’re Dave, I know you”. Of course after hearing this all the kids kept telling me that I’m not a real clown and disrupted everything I tried to do for the next hour. Next time I saw this guy I gave him H-E-double hockey sticks.

Another “fun” one was when I tried to confirm my show numerous times the day before and the person didn’t answer the phone or have an answering machine. I also tried on the morning of the party. No luck. But the show must go on as she had already booked me. So I spent the time to put on make-up & costume, drove to the party (about 35 km. away) and knocked on the door. The door opens and there are a bunch of kids looking at me and the mother says “Oh I just called you 10 minutes ago to cancel”. A shocked look on my face and sad looks on the kids faces, I turned around and drove back home. Next day I sent the lady an invoice for my time and a letter explaining why I was still charging her. Never
heard from her again.

Next month: How I reduced the amount of stinker parties.
