HWBIDCo exists to make the town centre work better for business.  This could be supporting local businesses directly or it could be addressing issues in the town cente that will encourage greater footfall and visitors to stay longer.

This edition we update you on the awards and accreditations associated with the town centre which we manage, achieve through our activities and deliver for the town.  Much of this work will probably go unseen by businesses so we are looking at ways of building their profile in our Renewal Campaign.
Thames and Chilterns in Bloom...
This was the second year in which HWBIDCo has entered the Business Improvement District (BID) company category of Thames and Chilterns in Bloom.  There are five BIDs in the region.

HWBIDCo was awarded a second Silver Gilt and also First in Category, which is a significant achievement in our second year.

A big part of the award makes an assessment of community participation.  It is not just about seasonal planting schemes as the award represents the depth of activity delivered by HWBIDCo.  For example, the judges said:

"[There was an] excellent example of school involvement at Manor Farm Park Primary School where 63 children participated in the design of a park and town improvements using the Minecraft game.  Really captured imaginations..."

Purple Flag...
Amazingly, it is already a full 12 months since our full over-night assessment with external judges last year.  So, its assessment time again.  This October we are only required to submit a light-touch self-assessment but it still requires a huge amount of paperwork and statistics.

The town has held the award for six years and reflects the work that is contributed by businesses and stakeholders in the town to make the night-time economy safe and attractive to a full range of potential visitors, from families through to night owls, theatre-goers to clubbers.  There are some great new business additions to the High Wycombe offer this year, strengthening our offer.

The big discussion is how we further raise the profile of the award so that we can maximise its benefits to the local economy.  Our BID Renewal campaign will share some ideas in the coming months.
Safer Business Award...
Independent Business Security Partnerships are critical in bringing together commercial interests to deter and apprehend persistent offenders intent on stealing stock, causing trouble and committing fraud.

HWBIDCo operates a comprehensive security partnership for High Wycombe town centre. We also work with Marlow and are in the process of bringing on board those businesses at Handy X Hub and Cressex Island, such as ASDA and John Lewis.

Those outside of the BID Area pay an annual subscription to participate, which provides a good revenue stream for the BID.  Those inside the BID Area receive the service for free as part of the return on their BID levy investment.

Our partnership has the power to collectively ban individuals from premises and the influence to seek statutory powers to support our decisions.

Our partnership is graded with Distinction by the National Association of Business Crime Partnerships (NABCP).
