I am so glad to have our kids back on campus this week. This week we had some visitors from the conference office on campus, and I had the pleasure of visiting each of Rivergate's classrooms. It was so fun to see each of our amazing teachers in action, and your children busy at their actives. Most of this letter is a repeated from last week in case you missed it, but I wanted to welcome our 7th and 8th graders back to campus full time! We are thrilled to have them back with us.
School Vs. Child Care
Just before Christmas the governor announced, “…effective January 1, 2021, Oregon’s COVID-19 Health Metrics for Returning to In-Person Instruction will become advisory rather than mandatory.” I am excited that we now have the freedom to operate as a school and to continue pursuing what is best for children. We will continue to maintain our child care license as we always have, but will be operating as a school.
This means that the Oregon Department of Education’s Blue Print will guide our 1st – 8th grade classroom protocols. If you would like to review our school blue print, please click the button below or go to rgsda.org and look under the “Health & Safety” tab.
I am happy to share with you that under ODE you and your child will see very few changes. We designed our child care protocols to match ODE protocols as closely as possible to maintain a consistent program for our students and families. Thank you all for your patience as we make this transition over the next few weeks. The one big difference you will hear about in our classroom is that we are back to social distancing students’ desks and encouraging social distancing on campus. Please remember that we are encouraging and reminding students of the social distancing but will never be putative with students.
Please find your teacher name below for any special notes about change in the classroom:
Mrs. Nagele: Will remain under child care due to the age of students in her classroom
Mrs. Smith: Students will be seated 6 feet apart in class and online students will be zoomed into the classroom
Mrs. Miner: Students will be seated 6 feet apart in class and online students will be zoomed into the classroom
Mrs. Hall: Students will be seated 6 feet apart in class and online students will be zoomed into the classroom
Mr. L: Students will return to campus for normal school (8:30-3:30) starting January 11
January 4-8 we will maintain the 2-hour afternoon classes for anyone in the class who would like to attend. This gives an opportunity for us to be prepared to serve our 7th and 8th graders full time the following week.
Please let feel free to give me a call if you have any questions or concerns about the changes we are making. Thank you all for your flexibility as we continue to maneuver this pandemic to serve your family best.
If you need to switch to online for a bit for any reason please remember that our teachers are eager to serve you well. To best serve your child, it takes a bit of time to prep packets and get things set up for your child to be online. We understand that with COVID things can be unpredictable. We will get you packets as soon as we can, but it could take a few days. Thanks for your patience and understanding.
As you are aware we have an amazing treasurer in Lisa Brown. She is fully available to answer any and all questions about your school bill, as well as any other finance-related items. She is available via text or phone call all week at 206-730-1896 or via email at email@example.com. Please feel free to reach out to her any time during the week!
Please let me know if you have any questions, ideas or concerns. I am always happy to hear from each of you.
Rivergate is collecting socks January 19-22 in each classroom to participate in this service opportunity! We will drop off the socks, and they will then be given to the Portland Rescue Mission for distribution. Thank you for considering participating in this service opportunity.
