Year 5 Does Like to be Beside the Seaside!

Recently, the pupils in Year 5 were lucky to enjoy amazing weather for their five day trip to Osmington Bay in Dorset. They set off on Monday morning, stopped off at Corfe Castle for a picnic lunch (and just about managed to dodge the only showers of the week), and arrived at their PGL centre later that afternoon. As they arrived, the sun came out and it didn’t stop shining on them all week.

Find out what they enjoyed most during their residential trip.

Year 2 Enjoy Pond Dipping at Painshill Park
Year 6: ‘My Favourite Part of our Residential Trip to Normandy’

Year 2 recently visited Painshill Park, where they explored habitats, learned about plants and took part in a variety of activities. In the afternoon, the children went pond dipping.

Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful week in Normandy, France, for their residential trip. The pupils have collated their favourite memories.

Year 5 Spend a Day in
Victorian Britain
Year 1 Learn About Growing Plants at RHS Garden Wisley

On Tuesday, the pupils in 5H spent the day in a Victorian classroom with a blackboard and chalk and no technology in sight. To add to the atmosphere, they came to school appropriately dressed as Victorian children and each pupil was given a Victorian name. They were taught their three ‘Rs’ by a very strict Mrs Smit!

This half term, Year 1 has been learning about 'How Plants Grow', which gave us an exciting opportunity to go and visit RHS Garden Wisley. We eagerly put on our wellies and coats and headed off for a day of exploring and investigating. During the morning, we had the chance to look around The Glasshouse and found lots of interesting plants. The 'Bird of Paradise' and the 'Red Hot Cats Tail' plants were firm favourites for Year 1.
Year 3 Learn About King Henry VIII at Hampton Court Palace
The Life of Florence Nightingale is Brought Alive for Year 2

On Monday, 3M hopped on the train from Thames Ditton to spend a glorious, sunny day at Hampton Court Palace. Needless to say, everyone was excited to spend the day learning about Henry VIII, the Tudors, and the history surrounding the palace. Upon arrival, we were greeted in the main courtyard by Thomas Seymour and set about exploring the Tudor apartments.

In their history lessons this term, Year 2 has been studying the life of Florence Nightingale as part of their Famous People and Events topic and were delighted to receive a visit from The Freshwater Theatre Company, who re-enacted the life and times of Florence Nightingale. Pupils in Year 2 already knew a great deal about Florence Nightingale and displayed their knowledge well, but this workshop really brought history alive and enhanced their understanding of this famous nurse.

Message from the Office
It has been a very busy start to the summer term with the past few weeks flying by. It is difficult to believe we have arrived at half term already.

This week we welcomed back Year 5 and Year 6 following their week long visits to Dorset and Normandy. The children had a fantastic time away, having participated in various exciting activities including zip wire on the PGL trip, and a visit to a goats cheese farm in France.

Second Hand Uniform
If you would like to donate items of clothing to the Second Hand Uniform shop, please do so at the very end of the summer term as we do not currently have space to store this.

Farewell from Miss Trown
It is with sadness that I say goodbye to Weston Green School with effect from today. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time working in such a nurturing and unique school, and I will miss the team here and, of course, the children greatly.

I wish you all a restful half term.
