A Magical Start to Summer Term

The first day back at school was even more exciting than usual last week as pupils from Reception to Year 5 were treated to magical maths shows and workshops with Tony, a visiting Mathmagician. The pupils were amazed by his clever tricks and had lots of opportunities to practise their number skills as he showed them ways to impress their friends and parents.

Elections for Weston Green’s first school councillors took place in KS2 just before the Easter break. Pupils who wanted to be considered for the role of councillor had to prepare a short election speech which they gave to the class. They then answered questions from their classmates.

Year 1 enjoyed a delightful day trip to the RHS Wisley Garden Centre on Monday to commence their summer science unit: Plants and Growing. The students visited the awe inspiring Glasshouse, which features many unusual and endangered plants from around the world. They explored the underground Root Zone to learn about the purpose of roots and completed some close observational sketching.

Spring Concerts Showcase Pupils' Musical Skills

The Reception classes had a most enjoyable day when they finally visited Bocketts Farm on 21st of March, after the trip was cancelled earlier in the term due to the extremely cold weather. The children and their teachers travelled by coach early in the morning to be met by their Guide, Steph, who took them on a guided tour around the farm to see all the animals.

The last full day of the Spring Term saw all pupils from Kindergarten to Year 5 take part in one of three Spring Concerts. These popular informal annual concerts give pupils the chance to perform to parents and grandparents some of the songs they have been learning during the term, as well as demonstrating various musical skills they have learnt.

Message from Mrs Skivington
The Summer term has got off to a very busy start with a number of prospective parents visiting the school. Any siblings eligible for entry in September 2014 must now be registered without delay. The form can be downloaded here or from the school’s website.

Except in the case of emergency, all emailed pick-up arrangements should be sent to the School before mid-day. This ensures that teachers can pick up the forwarded messages during the lunch period. Thank you.

On Tuesday evening this week a number of us went to Imber Court to support Mr. Dowson’s Kingstonian football team play Bromley in the London Senior Cup Final. Despite a sound and entertaining performance against a team from two leagues above, Alan’s team was subjected to a loss but the highlight for all the WGS spectators was Brice and Clement Guignard acting as mascots!  In the photo you can see them with Alan and their reward - brand new footballs!

On May 13th the class photographs will be taken just before the Year 5 pupils leave for their week’s residential visit to Dorset.

On the last day of this half term the pupils in EYFS will run their mini marathon on the school field at 9.15 followed by KS1 pupils at 2.30. This year the KS2 pupils will be running 1500 metres as part of Sports Day.

The staff have a table at the forthcoming Parents Association Summer Party and we look forward to relaxing with you that evening - let’s hope the sun shines!
