Rudi Fugler-Hegarty

Rudi Fugler-Hegarty attended Norfolk House School from 2006 - 2013. He currently attends City of London Boys School.

I had a great time at Norfolk House from Reception to Year 6. I think that the skills which I learnt in English and Maths really helped me to get into City and settle in quickly. These include constructing a triangle (CAT as Mr Ashton called it) in maths and ‘Answer, Evidence, Explanation’ when answering English Comprehension questions.

Ms Habgood's Blog: Welcome Back to Spring Term
Positive Playground Committee Festive Fayre Round Up

Firstly, a warm welcome back to the start of the new term, and New Year! Christmas seems an eon ago already, but with exciting things going on, it’s bound to feel like that! We welcome a new member of staff who will be taking over Mrs Cannon’s maternity cover in Form 3. Mr Alderton has already joined the school and is working with Mrs. Cannon until her maternity commences and then teaching Form 3C. I won’t tell you too much, as he has an introductory article in this edition of the newsletter.
Last term, our Positive Playground Committee (PPC) organised their first fundraising event, a winter Festival Fayre, where each of the classes made exclusive craft items which were sold to parents and visitors.

Watch their video round up of the event.

Mr Alderton: Our New
Form 3 Teacher
“My Six months in Orono, Maine, USA”

It was with great pleasure that I joined the Norfolk House team at the beginning of January this year, to take over from Mrs. Cannon whilst she goes on maternity leave. I’ve already been working with the pupils in Form 3 and all the staff to get to know the school and its routines! I have come from teaching in Australia and have also spent some years teaching in the Middle East as well as London.
Alice recently arrived home from six months in Orono, USA, where she attended an American elementary school. Read about her experience and see photos from her time away.

"I spent six months in Orono, Maine, a five hour drive north of Boston, living at my grandpa’s house. He is 85 years old and has moved from his house in New York to stay in Maine now. I went to Asa Adams Elementary School which goes from Kindergarten up to Grade 5..."

Second-Hand Uniform Sale Coming Up
Cross Country is Up and Running!

Friends of Norfolk House run a second-hand uniform sale once per half term, on a Friday morning from 8:10- 8:40am.

The next sale will be on Friday 28th February 2014. If you have any uniform items to donate, please bring them to the school office. We are low on stock of bigger sizes as well as all sizes of PE kits.

The money raised helps FoNH to pay for children's events, including Halloween, Christmas parties and the Easter egg hunt.
Miss Williamson and Mr. Ashton are joined each Wednesday and Friday morning, by a group of children who are dedicated and committed to improving their running ability, whilst having fun too. The competitive team train at Ally Pally on a Wednesday morning. Friday’s club has a more relaxed feel to it, with students working at their own pace to complete various set courses.

Find out more and watch a video from one of their Wednesday training sessions.

Form 3’s Play Scripts
& News Reports
Magazine Club Supports Children in Syria

Pupils from Form 3 have created some wonderful writing in response to a variety of tasks. The pupils have been learning about the features of a play. They looked at some examples of plays, before creating their own play scripts. Other tasks have included creating a newspaper report by re-writing an event from a story they were reading.

Read some examples of their fantastic writing.

Last term in Magazine Club, we worked really hard to produce ‘Norfolk News Edition 4’. We went round the whole school, selling our magazines and collecting money. We raised £23.00 that we will be giving to the children in Syria so they can get blankets during this cold weather. Thank you to everyone who supported us by buying a magazine!

Message from the office
Powerleague for KS2 on Wednesday is full. There are currently an additional five children who would like to take part. Mr. Holt is happy to run another session on a Thursday if we get five more children to sign up. Please inform the office ASAP if your child would like to attend Powerleague on Thursdays for this term.

After School Clubs - 11th February
Please be aware there will be no KS1 or KS2 after school clubs on Tuesday11 February due to Form 5’s parent consultations.

Music Lessons
If your child has music lessons at school these will continue from term to term, unlike after school clubs which are signed up for termly.

A term’s notice should be given to the music teacher if your child no longer wishes to take lessons.

Waiting lists are kept for those children who have requested to take music lessons. Parents are informed if a place becomes available.

Important - Parking
We had a serious parking safety incident reported to the office on Wednesday 15 January - A black BMW 4x4 pulled up in front of the school, not only on the zig zags but mounted onto the curb. There were families waiting on the pavement who were put at risk and quite shaken up by the incident. This is extremely dangerous. Under no circumstances must drivers pull up in front of the school between 8:00am - 9:30am and 3:00pm-4:30pm. We ask that if you know of drivers who you witness doing this, please report them to the school office and we will follow this up.

On a related note, sadly, we are still receiving a number of complaints from neighbours regarding parking over drives and on the white lines, despite all our letters about parking. It is essential to maintain successful and harmonious relationships with our neighbours.

Mrs Rajiah Visits with Baby Isabella
We had a lovely surprise visit on Wednesday from Mrs. Rajiah and Isabella.  Both mum and baby are doing really well!
