School Council Get Involved with the Local Environment

When the School Council was first formed back in the spring, they consulted with their classmates and then agreed that one of the things they wanted to do was get involved in their local environment. See photos of the School Council building stag beetle homes on Ditton Common.

Kindergarten thoroughly enjoyed their first Weston Green trip to the Polka Theatre in Wimbledon to see ‘Gorilla’ by Anthony Browne. The Polka celebrated the 30th anniversary of the classic award-winning picture book by the former Children’s Laureate.

When Greta, from Year 5, heard about the typhoon in the Philippines, she wanted to help.

Read Greta's account about why she decided to organise a Mufti day to raise money to support the people affected by the disaster.

On Wednesday 6th November, 3M took a trip to the Haslemere Museum to learn more about their history topic on Ancient Egypt. Upon arrival, the pupils learned how long ago it had been that the Ancient Egyptians had lived. And then the real fun began… They were shown the dummy of a human who they were to prepare for mummification!

In Thursday activity drama sessions, the pupils have been learning a variety of drama games; some intended as warm up activities, others team building and focus activities. Pupils are enjoying  building machines using movement and sound. Also as a term project, pupils have been involved with devising an advert for Weston Green School.

Reception’s topic this half term is Toys. Each child brought in one of their favourite toys to discuss in ‘Show and Tell’.  They were given the opportunity to discuss interesting facts about their toys, and were asked various questions such as: What are they made from? How are the different parts joined together? How are they used? Why are they your favourite toys?

Message from the Office
Last week we welcomed the Travelling Book Fair into the School. Children were able browse through an array of books, and buy products of interest to them. The event raised a successful £600.

Places have now been offered and accepted for pupils wishing to join Weston Green School in September 2014 and we very much look forward to welcoming the new children and parents into the Weston Green community over the coming months. Any siblings eligible for entry in 2015 should be registered now.

The Parents Association are working tirelessly to put together another fantastic Christmas Fayre, which will be held at the school on Sunday 1 December between 1.30pm – 3.30pm.

The drawing competition for the Fayre programme cover was won by now closed and The winners of the competition were Adam Teschner for KS2, Ava Williams for KS1, and Thandie Avon for EYFS - Well done to the winners and thank you to everyone who took part!

On Wednesday 27 November, we will be hosting a mufti day and asking the children to bring in their ‘sweet jam jars’ in preparation for the Christmas Fayre.

Thank you to parents and children for your wonderful shoebox contributions for this year’s ‘Samaritan’s Purse Appeal’. We have been inundated with fantastic, colourfully-wrapped and filled boxes!

And, a further thank you for your generous donations to the Poppy Appeal

Can I please remind parents that dogs are not permitted on the school grounds at any time.

Also a further reminder to parents not to park in the turning circle at pick up.

If you are unable to collect your child on time, please call the office and they will advise the teachers accordingly. Your child will be looked after until you arrive.
