Reception’s Buddies Help Them with their ‘Going Places’ Topic

Part of the settling in procedure at Norfolk House is to assign Reception children a ‘Buddy’ from Form 5 or Form 6 at the beginning of the year. The aim of this initiative is to provide support for the younger children as well as giving the older children opportunities to develop their caring skills.

Find out more and watch a video from the most recent Buddy visit which took place during Reception’s Going Places topic.

Form 6 Write Metaphoric Poems on Weather
'How Norfolk House Prepared Me for Secondary School'

In Form 6 poetry lessons, we studied metaphors and how poetry lends itself so well to this. We also discussed rhyme and rhythm and looked at different approaches to writing poetry. The children studied a number of poets and then began by writing their own metaphor poems on weather. We then went on to think and write about how we could express emotions as metaphors. "My name is Sadie and I was at Norfolk house for seven years (from Reception until Form 6) and this is my first year in Fortismere School, my secondary school. At the end of Year 6, my main worry was the size. Compared to secondary schools, Norfolk house is very small, so I kept worrying about how I would find my way around the school and get to my classes on time..."

Form of the Week:
'What Does a Positive Playground Look Like?'
Form 5’s Maths Surgeries Prepare Pupils for Exams

Over the past two weeks, the Form 3 classes have been thinking about the values that the Norfolk House Positive Playground Committee (PPC) has been promoting. The children were so interested and enthusiastic about the ideas discussed that they wanted to share their thoughts and suggestions with the rest of the school.
The Form 5 Maths Surgeries have begun, when Form 5 children come along at 8.10 am three mornings a week to develop their understanding of key mathematical topics which are covered in the Year 6 Common Entrance Exams.

Find out which topics they are covering between now and the end of June and watch a video of a pupil explaining what she has been learning in the Maths Surgeries.
School Council Update
VIDEOS: Impressive Performances from the Easter Concert

The Norfolk House school council is made up of a group of children from KS2 who work together to plan initiatives in order to raise money for a chosen charity, which this year is Great Ormond Street Hospital.

We have so far been involved in supporting the PPC (Positive Playground Committee) in creating items to be sold at the Christmas Fayre in the Autumn term, as well as working on the refreshment stand at the International Evening which was held in the Spring term.

In the Summer term, the school council plan to organise a dress up day, where they will ask for a gold coin donation for their chosen charity. We will keep you all posted about the details for this event.
Norfolk House put on an impressive Easter Concert, where pupils displayed great technique, confidence and talent through a range of disciplines. The audience was entertained by our school choir, our guitar ensemble and our soloists. Thanks to all the parents and family members who attend the music events and support Norfolk House’s musicians.

Watch videos from some of the performances.
