Reception’s Buddies Help to Prepare Palaeontology Museum

The Reception pupils have been busy preparing for their upcoming Palaeontology Museum and even managed to enlist the help of their buddies earlier this week! Some children decided to use construction materials to build models, whilst others acted out dinosaur stories using the toys as props. The teachers have been really impressed with how well the Big Buddies work with the younger children.

After School Clubs Questionnaire

In an effort to ensure that we offer After School Clubs/Care that suit our families, we would ask that you take a few moments to complete a short questionnaire, here.

The questionnaire will be open until Friday 28th February 2014. It is important that you have your say and help us in ensuring our after school provision is effective.

Form of the Week: Busy Bees Form 5

In a world where our children are ‘digital natives’, it is imperative that both at school and at home children are taught about safe use of online services/social media and the responsibility that comes with having access to the world, literally at our fingertips. This is something that needs to be kept high profile, and as well as Internet Safety Day (11th February 2014 this year), companies like CEOP are constantly supporting parents and schools by developing programs and tips to help with e-safety.

What a super busy half term this has been. We have worked incredibly hard and I am so proud of all the effort the children have put in this term! Some of our highlights have been:
  • PSHE: Muswell Hill Soup Kitchen
  • English: Reading Comprehension
  • Maths: The Cowboy Game
Find out more and see photos and videos from Form 5's busy half term.

Netball and Football Fixtures

Form 4 has been learning about 'Explanation Texts' and have studied written texts and explored the language used for them. Pupils watched a film clip about 'The Shirt Machine' and then carried out written work about the clip and attempted to write their own voice overs.

See examples of their voice overs.

In English, pupils have created two sports articles about their recent netball and football fixtures:

Netball
On a chilly Friday 7th of February we arrived at Broomfield park hoping for our first victory. Under the watchful eye of the rest of the girls, we had no idea how the match would turn out.

Reception’s Exciting Dinosaur Workshop

Norfolk House has been asked by local residents to support the campaign to improve the junction at the end of Alexandra Park Road to make it safer. We felt this was particularly important, given that it is a route used by some of our pupils.

The group is hoping to gather as many signatures as possible to put weight behind their concerns about the safety of this junction for pedestrians, and in particular children, who are especially vulnerable. As Norfolk House is so close to the junction and those attending school will no doubt be aware of how dangerous it is, they were very much hoping that parents might sign the petition in favour of improvements.

If you would like to sign the petition, please follow the online link, here.
On Monday 10th February, the Reception children took a break from completing the preparations for their very own Dinosaur Museum, put away the final drafts of their dinosaur fact books, and walked around the corner to St. Andrew’s Church Hall... Or was it St. Andrews? As we opened the door we were met by a wall of sound - prehistoric roaring, wailing and calling - and the hall was now inhabited by velociraptors, tyrannosauruses, stegosauruses and ferny plant-life. Had we travelled back to the Cretaceous period?

Message from the office
    Parking on Zig-Zags/ Inconsiderate Parking
Despite many messages and requests, Ms Habgood has had to speak to quite a number of parents about parking on the zig-zags, particularly during morning drop off. Although it might not seem that you are doing much wrong when you stop for a few minutes on the zig-zags at 8:05 or 8:25, it is contravening the school’s allotted clear zone times.

We also request that you park considerately towards our neighbours and do not park over their drives during drop off and pick up.

Haringey has suggested to us that they will be sending out patrols that could take pictures of vehicles contravening these two points and issue parking fines. Let’s make sure it doesn’t get to that and work together.

Breakfast Club
Breakfast Club is available every day. Please ensure you arrive between 7.40am and 8.10am.

Bug Busting Day
I hope all parents took part in the National Bug Busting day on 31st January. We have not had any reports to the office of head lice since then! Please remember to check your child's hair every now and then and keep hair tied back at school, where length allows.

Second-Hand Uniform Sale
There will be a second-hand uniform sale in the courtyard on Friday 28th February. If you have items of uniform you no longer need please send into the office.

Sainsbury's Vouchers
Once again we are participating in the 'Active Kids' campaign. If you shop at Sainsbury's, please collect the vouchers and pop them in the box outside the school office. We are able to obtain sports/playground/cooking equipment them.

Wishing you all an enjoyable Half Term break.
