Year 3 Re-Live
Ancient Egyptian Beliefs at Haslemere

As part of their current History topic, Year 3 pupils visited Halsemere Museum to learn more about the Ancient Egyptian beliefs about life and death. Upon arrival, they were met by a pretend Egyptian mummy who needed to be disemboweled! All the pupils were encouraged to act out the process of mummification, participating with removing the organs and placing them inside canopic jars.

Year 5 Take To The Stage... In Latin!
Discovering Dinosaurs in Reception

5H have been very busy this week, preparing for their assembly on Friday. Having been learning Latin for over a term, they have decided it is time to show the rest of the school what they can do! The pupils will dress as characters from their Minimus Latin text book, about a family who lived at Vindolanda in 100AD, to explain a little about what they have learnt. They will also act out two very short plays, which they will perform in Latin, with translations for the audience.
This half-term the children in Reception have been learning about dinosaurs and taking part in lots of fun activities. They have been colour mixing with yellow, red and white paint, mixing brown paint with sand and blowing bubbles into paint to make a large dinosaur landscape. The children drew dinosaurs and dinosaur skeletons in the ICT suite and they had great fun making a dinosaur home for their dinosaur cave in Mrs. Mossop’s classroom.

Year 4 & 5 Pupils
Year 2 Visit Vera Fletcher Hall for 'The Secret Garden'

Jessica from 4D and Jude from 5H were both pleased to receive the results of their Grade 1 Piano Examinations which they sat at the end of last year. Jessica was delighted to discover that she had achieved a Merit. Read short pieces by Jessica and Jude about their experiences of taking the exam.

Last Wednesday, Year 2 visited the Vera Fletcher Hall, located within walking distance of  the school to watch a performance of the ‘Secret Garden’, which was very much enjoyed by the children and teachers.

Message from Mrs Skivington
All but a few pupils were able to get into Weston Green on Monday morning for what was the start of a busy if slightly different school week. The pupils have enjoyed the snow with the only casualties of the week being the cancellation of the after school activities ensuring both pupils and staff got home before the temperature dropped. The new Clarioncall text messaging system aligned to the parent email network worked efficiently and we were able to keep everyone up to date with changes as the temperature plummeted.

Huge thanks go to Mr Martinez and Mrs Nell for their ice clearance on Wednesday morning. We hope for warmer temperatures and the return to a full sporting programme next week!
Girls' Uniform
Details have been sent to parents this week of a change in the girls' uniform which will take be introduced for the Summer term of 2014 - a new style dress for the younger girls with a striped summer blouse for the Key Stage 2 pupils, both of which will be purple and white.

Parent Teacher Interview Tinetables
Timetables for the parent teacher interviews on February 12th and 13th have also been emailed home and we look forward to welcoming you all on those evenings. Access on this occasion will be through the front door of school.
Lost Property
I am frequently asked about "lost property". The procedure within school is that any named piece of uniform is given back to the pupil or placed on their peg.  We have a "lost property" box in the Key Stage 1 corridor which is currently full of items from a Key Stage 2 jumper to a number of mouthguards to a school cap - none of which are named. Another issue which causes constant confusion is where pupils uniform still has its ex owner's nametape. It is therefore vital that all items from uniform including footwear and sports equipment are clearly named. Thank you.

Packed Lunches for School Visits
Following my regular weekly meeting with Courtney, Chef Manager, we have agreed that with immediate effect the catering team will be providing pupils going off site on full day school visits with a packed lunch. Previously parents have been asked to provide this and a deduction has been made for this against the cost of the trip. I hope you will all find this helpful.
