Form of the Week:
Form 5's Persuasive Speeches

For the last few weeks, Form 5 have been looking at persuasive speech and writing in their English lessons. At the start of the topic, they watched a range of video clips depicting speeches by some of the most famous public speakers in history. These included Martin Luther King Jnr’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech and recent speeches delivered by the newly re-elected President of the United States, Barack Obama.

On Thursday 29th November, Form 4 went on a trip to The Royal Gunpowder Mills, where they learnt a lot about Victorian Christmas. They learnt that Victorian Christmas trees were decorated with candy canes, popcorn and hand-made decorations and that wealthier families would decorate their trees with glass baubles. Before fairy lights were invented, the Victorians even adorned their trees with real candles!

Read Molly's match report from the ISA Under 11 Netball Tournament: "On 23rd November Norfolk House hosted the ISA Netball tournament. There were twelve schools altogether (120 players) which were split into two groups. Each school played at least five matches. Our team showed great sportsmanship even though not all of the matches went our way..."

Form 2 have been studying a number of books by the author Julia Donaldson. When working on The Gruffalo, they carefully considered the main characters and wrote character descriptions of them. Their learning objectives were to include ambitious vocabulary, similes and use connectives to extend our sentences. Read some of Form 2’s fantastic character descriptions.

I had the pleasure of accompanying the chess team to Hereward House for 3 rounds of chess. I am pleased to announce the overall score was 7 - 4 to Norfolk House. Well done to Sanjay, Samuel, Henry, Archie, Kieran and Dylan. Norfolk House hosted the first leg of the North London chess tournament on Saturday 24th November.
