Parents of Form 3 pupils were treated to an insight into what their children have been learning about different materials and their properties and uses, when they visited the class’ ‘Materials Museum’. Jaymin and Lotte from Form 3S have shared their account of the event.

On Monday 2 December, Form 4 arrived at school dressed as Victorian children, ready for our trip to The Royal Gunpowder Mills to learn all about how the Victorians celebrated Christmas. The children started in a session where they learnt about about Victorian Christmas decorations and discovered that Prince Albert introduced the Christmas tree to the UK when he married Queen Victoria.

Form of the Week: Form 5 Explore iPad Apps in the Classroom

Chess Update:
North London Schools Chess League

Great excitement erupted from the children in Form 5 when they discovered that they would be trialling the use of iPads in their classroom for the autumn term. They couldn’t wait to get their hands on iPads, which made the first part of my job pretty easy! Using iPads in the classroom has been a way of engaging the children, and exposing them to real-life technologies, used in creative ways, to enhance and extend their learning.

On Saturday 23rd November, our school hosted the North London Schools Chess League, which is in its second year.

There is an increase this year from six schools last year to 18 schools.

Norfolk House are in second place after the first meeting and the second meeting will be on Saturday 25th January. The top four schools will go on to the Final to be held next term.

Winter Festival Poems

Form 2 Visit
St Andrew’s Church

This half term, Form 2 has been exploring different types of poetry which make patterns on the page using words. Pupils mind-mapped exciting words and phrases to describe a winter festival of their choice and then chose their best ideas to translate into an acrostic poem.

See examples of their fantastic work.

Last week the children of Form 2 visited St Andrew’s Church, as part of their Christianity studies. They were warmly greeted by Father Tony Pybus, the Vicar of St Andrew’s, who began by explaining some of the history of the building. It was fascinating to hear that the current structure dates back as recently as 1957, when it was rebuilt following its destruction due to enemy action in 1944.
