Celebrating Books and Reading:
Book Sharing, Author Visits and Workshops

Last week the children took part in a series of events to celebrate books and reading - our curriculum focus, this term. Gemma Malley, author of popular books such as ‘The Declaration’ and ‘The Resistance’, visited KS2 to talk about her own writing, and also provided invaluable tips to the children on how they could enhance their own story writing. Some of the children were so inspired that they have already started writing their own novels at home!

The children in Key Stage 1 were very excited last week when they received a visit from Father Christmas. He shook hands with each of the children and gave them a present. The children also enjoyed singing ‘Santa Clause is Coming to Town’ and ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’. The Reception children have written about their visit from Father Christmas.

It's been a busy end of term with all the events going on, so I thought I'd give a quick summary, seeing as the Head Boy and Head Girl have taken over my blog this time, with their first video blog!

You can also see a video of the children singing at the Carols by Candlelight.

Forms 5 and 6 took part in our Creative Curriculum Event last week, demonstrating their developing skills and talents in yoga, music performance and street dance. Form 5 presented a wonderful display of yoga postures linked to their English work on War Horse, followed by a musical interlude by some of our talented instrumentalists and vocalists.

Pre-Prep have been looking at Fairy tales recently and kicked off their learning with a fun-filled Fairy Tale Day. The children all came in dressed as a Fairy Tale character and enjoyed carrying out Fairy Tale based activities. This was all brought to a fine end with a feast at the Royal Ball. See photos from their Fairy Tale Day.
