of London

On Monday, the Reception classes enjoyed their first trip out of the year. They were very lucky to have the weather on their side; it was a beautiful sunny afternoon, just perfect for picking pumpkins! As Reception are rehearsing for the upcoming Harvest performance, the sensory visit helped the children to learn about pumpkins and some of the other crops that the farmers are busy growing at this time of year.

This week, our class assembly was performed by 2N and they carefully took us back in time to 1666 to relive the events leading up to the Great Fire of London. The children acted out the sequence of events of the fire and were quick to take on the roles of the Londoners and understand what life was like under the Stuarts. The children performed with expression and spoke clearly and confidently in front of a large audience.

New ICT Initiatives at Weston Green School

On Friday 4th October, Year 5 presented the first class assembly of this academic year to an audience of pupils, parents, visiting head teachers and members of the governance team. Following their trip to Portsmouth on 25th September, they took the roles of crew and officers on board King Henry VIII’s beloved ship, the Mary Rose, to explain what life was like on board the ship.

The new term got off to an exciting start with our brand new ICT provision. Over the summer, lots has been going on to improve our ICT facilities at Weston Green, in order to better facilitate teaching and learning. Our infrastructure was completely overhauled to ensure faster broadband and an even better filtering system.

Message from the Office

This week we welcomed all parents in the school for their parent teacher meetings; we hope all parents find these meetings helpful and informative.

The school photographer will be in school on Wednesday 16th October to take individual photographs of the children. All children should come to school wearing their winter uniform on that day.

The Reception children had a very enjoyable visit to Garson's Farm this week where they picked the most enormous pumpkins! The Year 1 and Year 2 children are also looking forward to their trip to the Weald and Downland Museum in Chichester; you can read all about their experiences in the next issue of the bulletin.

Over the course of the next two weeks children will be practising even harder for their Harvest Festivals and we look forward to welcoming you to the various celebrations at the school and All Saints Church. There will be no after school activities for KS1 on the day of their Harvest Festival and school closes for half term at 3:15 p.m. on the 23rd October after the KS2 celebrations.

May I remind parents that they should not park at the rear of the school at any pick up time, either within the turning circle or the staff parking area. Many thanks for your cooperation.
