Meet Our New
Year 6 Teacher:
Mrs Camilla Earp

We are looking forward to welcoming Mrs. Earp to Weston Green School in September when she will join the team as our new Year 6 teacher. She has kindly taken the time to answer a few questions to introduce herself to families at the school:

"What attracted you to the role of Year 6 teacher at Weston Green?
The job description really excited me. I understand that Weston Green will be saying goodbye to its very first Year 6 class this July and I was attracted by the opportunity to not only give Year 6 a great experience, but help build the profile of the year group as part of Weston Green’s burgeoning Upper School..."

Kindergarten & Reception Explore Life Under the Sea

Year 5 Rise to
the Challenge at
Claremont

This term, the pupils in Kindergarten and Reception have been exploring life under the sea. Find out about what they have been learning and how this topic has helped the pupils to explore cross-curricular links across mathematics and literacy.

Friday 13th might be unlucky for some, but not for Milo, Issy, Jessica and Scarlett from 5H, who were lucky enough to be taken by Mrs. Hawkins to a Maths Adventure Day at Claremont Fan Court School, where they joined 50 other able young mathematicians for a morning of maths challenges.

Outstanding Results from Year 4 English Speaking Board Examination

Year 6 Day with Elmbridge Junior Citizen

Year 4 pupils are celebrating their success in their recent English Speaking Board Examination. The English Speaking Board (ESB) is a National Awarding Body which provides accredited qualifications in a variety of Spoken English assessment programmes. The assessment for our Year 4 pupils, which was conducted here at Weston Green School by a visiting ESB examiner, consisted of four solo mandatory sections for each child.

On Monday 9 June, Year 6 attended the Junior Citizen course held at Walton Upon Thames Fire Station run by Elmbridge Council. It was a great chance for the Year 6 children to learn valuable lessons in independence as they prepare for secondary school next year. The children attended a range of short sessions hosted by different local services.

School Council Select New Playground Equipment

Exploring Recent History in John Lennon Workshop

Earlier this year many of you were busy collecting Sainsbury’s vouchers and bringing them in to school. Finally it was time for the School Council to count the vouchers and choose from the catalogue of equipment. After consulting with Mrs. Ranger, and taking into account the views of their classmates, they chose some much needed skipping ropes, balls, beanbags and a giant draughts set.

On Thursday 12 June, “Flower Power” invaded Weston Green School in the afternoon! The Years 5 and 6 pupils transformed into hippies wearing head bands, t-shirts with peace logos, beads, maxi dresses, and there were even a few wire-rimmed coloured glasses and moustaches. The Year 6 pupils are learning about aspects of recent history from studying the life of John Lennon as an example of someone who made a significant impact on popular culture and entertainment.

Teatime Concert

Create Recordings at
Sky Sports Studios

Pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 gave very entertaining performances at our recent Teatime Concert, the final instrumental concert of this academic year. The audience of parents, siblings, grandparents and teachers were treated to performances on the full range of instruments offered by the school, from delightful debut performances through to a beautiful rendition of Moon River.

Pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 were excited to revisit the Sky Sports studios recently to create their own recordings. Read Alex  from Year 6's recount of the day:

"On the 9th of June 2014 we went to Sky Sports studios near Twickenham. After a half an hour bus journey we arrived, and we were still shocked by the size of the place, huge metal structures glistened in the sun..."

Message from the Office
It seems like only yesterday that we were welcoming everyone back to school for the start of this academic year and now we are moving rather swiftly towards the end of year and the end of an era with Mrs. Harvey’s departure.

The school is a hive of activity and the sound of pounding feet mingles with snippets of songs as the children practise their races and end of year production pieces.

The 20th June was an extra special day for Mrs. Harvey as she was presented with a gift from the staff to remind her of her time at WGS during the morning assembly. The children were asked to try and guess what the gift may be and there were a number of suggestions, including piano, sofa, bench and bath!  Much to Mrs. Harvey’s relief her gift was a bench.

In the afternoon, we welcomed alumni from the school from Mrs. Harvey’s ‘reign’ over the past 27 years. There was lots of laughing as past pupils met with old classmates and shared their memories of their time at WGS. There were many 'wows' as people viewed the changes made to the school and the addition of the EYFS department.
