KS2 Develop Their Programming Skills During ICT Day

On Monday 3rd June, pupils in Key Stage 2 enjoyed an ICT workshop, focussed on the theme of 'control and simulation', a topic the children have been studying in the summer term. During the day, the pupils had the opportunity to build Lego cars using the 'Lego mindstorms' equipment. They were given a series of challenges for the car to complete using programming skills.

Weston Green’s Musicians Perform at Teatime Concerts

On what was scheduled to be the hottest day of the year yet we ran our two rescheduled mini marathons. Sadly the forecast was incorrect but the EYFS run got the day off to an energetic start with the Kindergarten and Reception pupils running round and round the school field. Ten minutes later Mrs. Harvey rang the bell and the children gratefully drank the water provided by the Parents Association.

We held our second termly teatime concert recently and were very pleased to see another group of musicians rising so well to the challenge of performing to an audience – many for the first time. Pupils from Year 2 to Year 5 entertained their parents and several members of staff who enjoyed a cup of tea and a biscuit while they listened to performances on the piano and guitar, as well as singers (both individually and in groups).

Year 2 enjoyed an action packed day at Painshill Park on Monday 20th May as part of their science topic on plants and animals in the local environment. They took part in pond dipping and had the opportunity to investigate their findings under a microscope.

On Tuesday 11th June, Reception visited Portsmouth Aquarium to link in with their current topic ‘Beaches and the Sea’. We travelled by coach to Portsmouth.  On arrival we looked at all the sea creatures in the Aquarium. We saw some wonderful fish and animals and found out some interesting facts.

Message from Mrs Skivington
I hope you will have seen the beautiful new tree on the school field. This was delivered and planted earlier this month in memory of Clare Pughe who was such an enthusiastic supporter of the school. Its coloured leaves and beautiful blossom will remind us all of her, Johnny, Charlie and Olivia in the years to come.

Please do remember to bring into the office any “good as new” items of uniform which you wish to sell on. Name labels must be removed and blazers and duffel coats should be dry cleaned. If you have any doubts about whether or not we will purchase the items, please do check with us first. This week we have used funds raised from these sales to provide t-shirts for twelve pupils from Key Stage 2 who participated in the Thames Turbo Aquathlon on Sunday - more detail to follow in the next bulletin.

On Thursday we held our final Visitors’ Morning of this academic year. Any siblings eligible for entry in September 2014 should now be registered without delay. Thank you.

The Parents Association are preparing for the forthcoming Summer Fair on Sunday 23rd. Pupils joining us in September have been invited to this event with their families to enjoy one of the most popular events of the calendar. I know you will make them welcome.

On Tuesday 25th June all the pupils in the school, both new and existing, will meet their teachers for the forthcoming academic year.  This will be followed on Wednesday 26th June by a Meet the Teacher evening for EYFS parents. Those of you with pupils in KS1 and KS2 in September are invited to meet your child’s new teacher on Monday 9th September at 7 p.m.

Rehearsals for the end of year production and practices for sports day are well under way for all the pupils in school. Details and dates are displayed on the diary dates part of this bulletin and I look forward to welcoming you to both events as the year draws to a close.
