Form of the Week: Reception Learn About Cultural Festivals

Interhouse Netball Tournament at Broomfield Park

In Reception this half term, our topic is Cultural Festivals. Miss Joyce and Mrs. Crawford were both delighted (and a little bit frightened) by the homework that emerged from the folders on Monday morning. Over the weekend the children had clearly been incredibly busy creating Calavera (skull) masks, after learning about ‘The Day of the Dead’ in Mexico last week. The masks were very impressive - highly decorated in garish colours true to the Mexican tradition.

The first interhouse netball tournament for 2013/2014 was held on Friday 18th October at Broomfield Park. The girls were consumed with nervous excitement! For some, this was a familiar challenge for the title of interhouse champions, but for others, this was the very first competitive match being played. The girls performed exceptionally well and it was great to see the development of their skills.

Writers' Corner:
Form 6 Build Atmosphere & Mood

Out of School Interests: Ice Skating - by Joseph, Form 2

Form 6 have been working extremely hard to develop their creative writing skills. We have been thinking about how to use precise vocabulary, figurative language and varied sentence structures to build atmosphere and mood. For this piece, the children studied an extract from the book, Cloud Sailors, by Hugh Montgomery, before writing about how they thought life would continue for the characters.

I do ice-skating at Alexandra Palace three times a week. I started skating even before I came to Norfolk House!  I really enjoy it because I get to practise my skills, for example, a 'three jump',  which is a curved jump, rotating and landing on a different foot, a 'three turn', a 'mohawk', and 'backward crossovers'.

Message from the office
    Raincoats!
Please ensure the children come to school with raincoats. Even if sports is cancelled due to rain, some of the children will still be walking to St Andrew's so a raincoat is essential.

Parking:
A letter will be going out to all parents about parking on the zig-zags, early next week. Please observe and respect the school’s request to not park on zig-zags during restricted hours and leave enough time in the morning and at pick up, to park safely and considerately.

Uniform:
We are still finding items of clothing that are not labelled. Please ensure all items of uniform are clearly labelled with your child's name.
