Year 4 Create A Wonderful Range of Work Inspired by Trees

Year 4 pupils at Weston Green School have been taking a keen interest in trees this term; thinking particularly about trees in our world and what they mean to us. Using as a starting point, one of Michel Rosen’s amusing poems about trees, they were inspired to create their own poems featuring their favourite trees.

On Monday and Tuesday of our last week of term, pupils from Kindergarten and Reception took part in a Nativity service that had been written especially for them by the Early Years teachers. Parents, grandparents, aunties, uncles and other special visitors listened and watched with pride and joy as our youngest pupils told the story of the very first Christmas. Watch a video of the children performing.

The pupils in Year 1 enjoyed taking part in the Gingerbread Enterprise this week. The Gingerbread Enterprise was an open, creative mathematics project that took place over sessions to inspire the Year 1 pupils to use mathematics in meaningful, real life contexts. In the first stage of the project, the pupils had to think about the various skills involved in building a gingerbread house.

In September 2011 Weston Green successfully implemented curriculum Dance in the EYFS (Kindergarten and Reception), and this year the school has extended classes to allow Year 1 to continue to enjoy this creative and physical subject further. Term began with all the pupils eager to start class promptly and excited to learn new skills.

Nativity songs have been ringing out from the music and drama studio for some weeks now as pupils from Years 1 & 2 have been preparing for the Nativity service at All Saints Church. The family of the school was invited to the service to share in the celebration of the first Christmas.

Note Message from Mrs Silver
Today, the school is a calm, quieter place after all the excitement of the last few days! Three nativities and the Key Stage 2 Christmas celebration have reflected the happiness and excitement of all the pupils at this time of year. Added to the staff party on site last Friday evening and three sittings of Christmas lunch with Santa yesterday, I welcome the opportunity to sit in the office and focus on some paperwork! Please click here for full details about:
And finally... I wish you all a very happy family Christmas time.
