As part of their history topic on what life was like for Victorian children, the pupils of 5H were lucky enough to enjoy a visit from Chertsey Museum education service, who brought a whole range of interesting artefacts and costumes. The pupils found out what it would have been like to have to go to work, perhaps as a chimney sweep or match seller, and what life would have been like if they were lucky enough to go to school.

On Thursday 7th March, Weston Green celebrated World Book Day with various activities organised during the week:
  • Book Presentations
  • Book Exchange
  • Book Cover Design
  • Author Visit
  • 2BN's Assembly

On Monday 25th March, Year 2 visited Gunnersbury House Museum as part of their history topic, in which they have been learning about famous people from the past. Led by an expert, the pupils were enabled to act out the story of Florence Nightingale using costumes and props. They extended their knowledge of Florence Nightingale’s important role in the modernisation of nursing and hospitals.

Just before half term, on a bright but very cold day, Year 5 went on a local field trip as part of their geography topic on rivers. Mrs. Withers drove them the short distance to Orchard Lane, close to the Metropolitan Police Sports Ground, where they started a walk along the banks of the rivers Mole and Ember. The pupils quickly identified key river features which they’d been learning about back in class.

Message from Mrs Skivington

Very quickly the Spring term is drawing to a close.

The weather has been very unkind this term - the Reception visit to Bocketts Farm cancelled at the start of last week due to the severe cold has now been rearranged. Bad weather also caused disappointment for the pupils in Year 2 who were hoping to show their football skills off at Parkside last Saturday under the guidance of Mr. Dowson and Mr. Hudson - the forecast of heavy rain forcing its cancellation.

Earlier this month we welcomed a small number of mothers who have helped with the cake sales early this term us for lunch. They shared in the dish of the day and selection of puddings and were able to observe the older children at lunch. The menus are available to view in the parents section of the website - these work on a rolling four week basis and will be revised for the Summer term.

I wish you all a very happy Easter weekend and look forward to welcoming the pupils back on 22nd April.
