Pupils Perform For Parents at First Teatime Concert

We are thrilled to have a growing number of young musicians and, following the success of our Instrumental Concert in June, we are keen to provide opportunities for the children to share their progress with parents and to perform to an audience in a relaxed atmosphere. We therefore held our first Teatime Concert on Tuesday afternoon. Parents were invited to come for tea and biscuits from 4.00pm.

Reception’s Exciting Visit from the Fire Station!
Weston Green's
Maths Newsletter
-Issue #2

This half term, the pupils in Reception have been thinking about people who help us, in particular firefighters. They have discussed the dangers of fire, introduced vocabulary to do with fire fighting and looked at pictures and books about fire fighters and fire engines. This culminated in a visit this Monday from Esher Fire Station.

Hockey Successes
Key Stage 2
Year 1 Learn About Toys at Gunnersbury Park Museum

Key Stage 2 pupils have been displaying their hockey skills in the past week, playing in fixtures against two other schools. Last Friday, Year 3 boys and girls hosted an all boys squad from St George’s College Junior School Weybridge. This was an eagerly awaited contest with Weston Green Year 3 pupils determined to showcase their developing skills on the hockey pitch.

On Monday, the pupils in classes 1W and 1G enjoyed a day trip to Gunnersbury Park Museum where they participated in a hands-on session about toys throughout history. The pupils observed and were able to interact with a variety of museum artefacts such as wax dolls, wooden soldiers and spinning tops. The Year 1 pupils have created some wonderful news writing about their visit to the museum.

    A Busy Half Term
Our first teatime instrumental concert took place on Tuesday afternoon as those pupils who are taking individual piano, guitar, violin and singing lessons entertained their parents, siblings and teachers.  This was a wonderful occasion and one that we hope will be become a regular feature of the timetable.
Year 1 travelled to Gunnersbury Park Museum supporting their work on toys of long ago and straight after half term Year 2 pupils will visit the Museum to learn more about Florence Nightingale.
The final week of this half term sees the Kindergarten pupils welcoming their parents to a celebration of Chinese New Year on Monday morning and finishes with Mrs. Reynolds pupils inviting their parents into school to watch their assembly.
Also on Friday morning Year 5 pupils will be travelling in the school minibus down to Esher High Street to watch the Artillery Parade. In between these events all parents have appointments to meet the teachers on either Tuesday or Wednesday evening for an update on your child’s progress.
This week concluded with W.G.S. hosting the Governance Meeting for those schools within the Bellevue Group who are based in the South of England.  Six pupils from Key Stage 2, Sophie and Oscar from Year 5, Milo and Jessica from Year 4 and Olivia and Joshua from Year 3 were chosen by their teachers to show our visitors around the School.
So a busy half term both in and out of school – enjoy the break.
