Excellent Results
from Year 6

Congratulations to our first group of Year 6 pupils who have all achieved wonderful success in their 11+  entrance examinations. All of our pupils have been offered places in the schools of their choice. We are hugely proud of the these pupils and everything they have achieved since they entered Year 3 as our very first KS2 group. Their success in Year 6 is a reflection of the values, high standards and expectations of all the staff who have been involved in their teaching and 11+ preparation since Year 3.

Green’s Crazy Hat Day

Workshops Bring Learning to Life for Years 1 & 2

After raising a fantastic £200 for Barnardo’s children’s charity from the School Council’s ‘Crazy Hat Day’ initiative, the pupils also wrote to the famous fashion designer, Bruce Oldfield, who grew up in a Barnardo’s home, to send him a some of the amazing photos of the day. We were delighted to receive the following response from Bruce...

Pupils from Key Stage 1 thoroughly enjoyed taking part in workshops recently, which extended their learning about current topics which they have been studying. Year 1 took part in an ‘Enchanted Toy Shop’ workshop, whilst pupils in Year 2 further explored ‘Life on a Scottish Island’.

Maths Week Provides Real-Life Learning Opportunities

Kindergarten's Painting Workshop with Artist,
Georgia Bailey

Last week, the pupils at Weston Green enjoyed an amazing week of real life maths, and made almost £100 for their chosen charity, Barnardo’s, at the same time. To get the week off to a magical start, Tony Charles, the amazing Maths Magician, came in to school and pupils in Reception through to Year 6 were treated to his mind-dazzling show. The pupils in KS1 and KS2 also took part in workshops where they learned more magical tricks and how to become real wizards with working out change, and other money essentials.

The children in Kindergarten were very excited as they arrived at school on 24 March because we were joined by Georgia Bailey, an artist from the Orleans Gallery in Twickenham. As Kindergarten's topic this half term has been ‘Growing’, Georgia spoke to the children about daffodils growing from bulbs and showed them a picture illustrating the different stages of growth. She set the activity up outside as it was a beautifully sunny morning.

Author, Zehra Hicks,
Visits Weston Green

KS2 Workshops
Celebrate 450 Years of Shakespeare

Weston Green celebrated World Book Day with a visit from the Author, Zehra Hicks. Zehra has a strong link with Weston Green as her aunt founded the original school and her father was born in what is now the Year 6 classroom when the school was still a house. The whole school enjoyed hearing about Zehra’s background and listening to her stories in assembly. Each year group then took part in a workshop.

During recent weeks, Key Stage 2 pupils have been joining in the national celebrations to mark the 450th anniversary of the birthday of the world’s most famous playwright, William Shakespeare. During English lessons they have been focusing on the life and works of Shakespeare and on Monday 31 March they were lucky enough to experience a two hour quality workshop on Macbeth, led by a member of The Young Shakespeare Company.

Music Students Perform at Teatime Concert

Swimathon Supports Sport Relief

Our termly teatime concert took place recently and the audience of parents, grandparents, friends and staff greatly enjoyed varied performances from pianists, some of whom only started learning in September, and singers. Our first drummers also performed, with Mr. Kennedy on electric guitar, and received an enthusiastic response from the audience.

Several children from Weston Green took part in a Swimathon on Saturday 22 March in aid of Sport Relief. The young swimmers and (young) parents swam a total of 16.6 km and raised a staggering £735. Participants from WGS included: Brice, Jude, Clement, Xannie, Jackson, Jessica, Thomas, Lucy and Joseph.

Reception Meet the Animals at
Bocketts Farm

Weston Green Takes Part in Sky Sports’ ‘Game Changers’

Reception had the most wonderful and exciting day visiting Bocketts Farm on 12 March. After a short coach journey we arrived at the farm and were welcomed by the Bocketts Farm staff members who were very friendly and helpful. We had a brief safety talk followed by a visit to the small animal village ‘Little Hoppington’ which was a wonderful place to meet the small furry friends!

Find out more and see photos from Reception's visit to Bocketts Farm.

On Saturday 29 March, 31 pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 took a trip to Sky Sports Studios to be part of a live studio audience on the television show, Game Changers. With a meeting time of 6:30am it was an early start for all those involved, including the three members of staff who accompanied the children.
