Neighbors Association

(Montrose to Wilson, Malden to Broadway)

Dear Neighbors,
As you probably know, the Wilson L Station and adjacent property will be renovated in a $203 million, 33-month project to begin in mid-2013. Many of you went to the CTA Open House at Truman College recently and saw the CTA’s renderings of a modern, safe, and more welcoming main station, retail space in the Gerber building and a new south entrance to the Red Line platform on Sunnyside between Target and Aldi.  The CTA wants this south entrance as do the majority of respondents to our Wilson L Restructuring Community Survey.
Unfortunately our alderman, James Cappleman, does not currently support a south entrance to the L platform, and the alderman has a great deal of power over this issue.
The CTA designed the south entrance to make it more convenient for shoppers and residents to access the L, but they rely on community input to make their plans a reality. That’s why the Graceland-Wilson Neighbors Association (GWNA) asks you to:
  • Visit the Graceland-Wilson Neighbors website and look over the Wilson Red Line coverage,  including a great article on GRID Chicago, all the CTA Wilson L Renderings, and survey results.
  • MOST IMPORTANT: Email the CTA and cc: Alderman James Cappleman and tell them that you support a south entrance to the platform at Sunnyside between Target and Aldi, and why. Include any other suggestions you have for a better station, retail and pedestrian experience. If you need ideas or want the verbiage to articulate your support, you can copy and paste from or the Wilson L Restructuring Community Survey Executive Summary.
Include your home address with your email so the CTA and the alderman will know you are a nearby resident, or indicate you are a user of the Wilson L Station as a commuter or student.
The CTA is actively soliciting community support for the Wilson L Station Reconstruction, including the Sunnyside entrance to provide safer, more easily accessible transportation, especially for the residents living south and west of the station. Please forward this message to your neighbors, friends and anyone you know who uses the Wilson L Station. Remember, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!

Also, don't miss our Halloween Celebration this Saturday, October 27th!

Bring your ghouls and goblins out for a morning of pumpkin decorating, games, and a costume parade around the neighborhood. Dogs in costume are also welcome.

October 27th, starting at 10AM on the Sunnyside Mall at Magnolia.
