An Update on the 2020 Give A Mile Christmas Campaign
Arya's Journey

In March of  2017, when Arya was just four years old, she began to experience neck pain and was later diagnosed with cancer, beginning her brave  journey to beat cancer.

Arya  was in Pittsburgh, PA. for specialized assessment and treatment in the fall of 2019.  Give A Mile was able to provide a flight for the family to return to Calgary so that they could all be together for Christmas.

Over the course of Arya’s journey, she participated in 4 (almost 5) clinical trials. For the most part, her quality of life was great, right up to her last 36 hours. She was still attending school the week before Thanksgiving, playing with friends, and hanging out on the playground. She even went out to McDonalds to have her favourite chicken Nuggets for dinner on her last day, and came home to a slice of pumpkin pie, and asked for seconds of ice cream. Sadly, Arya passed away on October 15, 2020.

From Aryas' Family

“Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass, it’s about learning how to dance in the rain” (Vivian Greene), and Arya sure did an amazing dance in the rain!

Arya, you have made an immense contribution to this world with your bravery, love, and sacrifice and we will make sure that is never forgotten.

Arya's family curated a website that shares her journey ... Arya's Journey

Your donation of loyalty points can help Give A Mile to provide flights for families. Thank you!!

Flight Hero Spotlight

Give A Mile is very fortunate to have dedicated supporters that regularly sign on to be a Flight Hero.

A Flight Hero commits to raising 25,000 Aeroplan points or $ 1,500 so that Give A Mile can provide a flight to reconnect families that are dealing with end of life. This amazing group of individuals and companies have been responsible for over 100 flights.

Specialty Polymer Coatings, Inc.

Specialty Polymer Coatings have  been a Give A Mile Flight Hero since 2019 and has committed to taking on another flight for our 2020 Christmas Campaign.

Recently, we asked the team at SPC to share their experience as a Give A Mile Flight Hero

When did SPC first become a Flight Hero? SPC first became a flight hero during the 2019 Christmas Campaign.
Why did SPC decide to take on the responsibility of being a Flight Hero and raising the points/dollars to support a flight? Each year for the holiday season, SPC chooses an initiative to support, in which staff from all locations can participate.  Give a Mile was presented by a staff member who had previously supported the Give a Mile Casks for a Cause events and to say our staff were eager to become involved, would be an understatement. As most of us have been fortunate to travel on business for SPC, we felt, what better way to use the miles accumulated than to support individuals & families who truly need them, especially in these unprecedented times.
How has the experience been? Have you felt supported in your role and have you achieved your  goals in being a Flight Hero? The experience with Give a Mile has been nothing short of amazing! It’s been refreshing to work alongside the volunteers, knowing they have the same end goal in mind and want you, as a company to succeed. Our first year, we set out to raise 25,000 miles only to surpass this and raise 100,000 miles!
Perhaps you can discuss the feeling you get from completing a successful Flight Hero campaign. Our hearts were incredibly full last year when we completed the campaign raising enough for our flight recipient.

What keeps bringing you back to be a Flight Hero? What keeps us coming back is knowing we are bringing families & friends together during a time of need - there’s no better feeling.

From all of us at Give A Mile... SPC, thank you! You truly are heroes!
