Happy Days treat Young Carers to a trip to the New Forest Wildlife Park

Our Young Carers in Southampton project had a great day out at The New Forest Wildlife Park this month, where they were able to enjoy time with friends and have some respite from their caring responsibilities. The children and young people had a great day, even in the rain!

Toni-Marie, Inclusion and Participation Service Manager, said “Young carers take on high levels of responsibilities that many adults would struggle with. As well as impacting on their education and their physical and mental health, caring can also mean they miss out on time with their friends and access to fun activities. This amazing opportunity to spend a day at New Forest Wildlife Park, with a group of friends that understand their lives, allows them a chance to have a break and have fun with other young people that understand them. These opportunities have such a positive impact on the young carers that are able to access them.”

Big thank you to Happy Days for funding the trip!

Lasting memories

The young people who attend our COSMO group had a great time making keepsakes at a pottery painting session last week at the My Pottery studio, which was followed by a Shakeaway and an afternoon of building marshmallow-spaghetti towers!

COSMO (children of substance misusing others) is a support group for children and young people aged 11-18 who are affected by the substance use of their friends or family. The group offers a safe space for you to relax, have fun and meet other young people going through similar experiences.

Thank you so much to Santander Bitterne for allowing the trip to happen after having match funded the Annual Rounders Tournament in 2018.

No Limits Charging Point

We’ve got a new branded mobile phone charging point at our Advice Centre for our young people to use when their devices are running low on battery. This is particularly valuable for some of our young people who are experiencing homelessness and have nowhere else to go.

Street homeless and sofa surfing young people also visit our Advice Centre for access to our shower and laundry facilities, fresh food, clean clothing and toiletries. Could you help us to make a difference to the lives of those in need?
