We can unlock loneliness

This month our Youth Ambassadors have been running an ‘unlock loneliness’ campaign to help raise awareness of loneliness in Southampton. The group wrote pledges of support to encourage young people across Southampton to access help and combat loneliness.

Having conducted a 2-week survey in February 2019, we found that of the 300 participants, 58% of young people said they have felt disconnected from people, with 54% of the 14-15 cohort stating that they felt they had no one to turn to.

You can help us to unlock loneliness in Southampton by sharing words of encouragement on social media, and don’t forget to use the hashtag #unlockloneliness.

Time 4 U

We’re excited to have been awarded with funding from Southampton City Council to open a new, weekly group for 8-11 year olds with learning difficulties. Sessions will be fun and full of activities like cooking, playing games, watching films, arts and crafts, and trips.  The children will also take part in supportive discussions and learning around specific issues they’re facing.

The funding also allows us to continue delivering support to young people aged 11-18 who have learning disabilities. The support group, Time 4 U, is a safe place for young people to socialise and have fun, while being supported to deal with some of the specific changes they face in their lives.

Sun, Sea and Sand for our Young Carers and Next Steps projects

Our Young Adult Carers and Next Steps groups had a great time in Brighton on a residential trip last month! The trip was an opportunity for the young people to come together and have fun with friends, whilst being able to have some respite from their caring responsibilities. The young people enjoyed some sun, sea and sand at the beach, along with a trip to Sea Life, cooking sessions, films, games and workshops on topics such as emotional well-being and alcohol.

Pancake success

Our first Networking Breakfast event was a huge success! Thank you to everybody that attended our Pancake Networking event and a special thanks to our sponsor BNI liberty Southampton. The event raised an amazing £395.49 for No Limits!
