380 Students, 110 professionals and over 15 corporations participated in HISPA’S 2012 Youth Conferences "Take Action! Achieve Your Dreams."
Over 380 middle school students gathered at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) and Princeton University in Princeton, NJ for HISPA’s 2012 annual Youth Conference held respectively on May 25th and June 8th. The students participated in workshops led by Latino professionals where they learned about academic achievement and were exposed to careers in STEM related fields (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Workshops were provided by volunteer role models from AT&T, Merck, Microsoft, Protto, PSEG, Southwest Research Institute, UTSA’s Office of P-20 Initiatives, and Verizon.
The New Jersey conference was hosted by Princeton University’s Human Resources Department and co-hosted by AT&T. The lead sponsor was Robert Wood Johnson Foundation with PSE&G as the event sponsor. Collaborator organizations included Educational Testing Service (ETS), Johnson & Johnson, Merck, and Siemens. Partner corporations were Cool Speak, Pulse Two, Samsung, Wells Fargo and Wendy Robinson Photography.
ERGs (Employee Resource Group) supporting HISPA in New Jersey were graciously there are those of AT&T, Johnson & Johnson, Verizon, Merck and Bristol-Myers Squibb. Other role models come from the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA) of New Jersey and Latino Princetonians.
In addition to the hosting partner UTSA; other organizations supporting our efforts in San Antonio included AT&T's ERG HACEMOS, College Board, ETS, ADELANTE, ALPFA San Antonio, Café College, Samsung, MAES, the San Antonio Chapter of the Association of Latinos; National Society of Hispanic MBA’s (NSHMBA) San Antonio; the Mexican-American Bar Association of San Antonio; and the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

HISPA's Summer Leadership Series
The Governor's Hispanic Fellows Program lead by the Center of Hispanic Policy, Research and Development (CHPRD)
partnered with HISPA for 8 weeks to lead full day leadership sessions for 20 fellows from Kean University, Rutgers, and FDU among other institution. The fellows were exposed to work settings in participating corporations such as AT&T, ETS, PSEG, Verizon and Wells Fargo. In addition, to a diverse group of leaders in Industry, Academia, Non-Profit Management, and Government. The fellows attended sessions at Rider University, Educational Testing Service and Princeton University School of Public Policy.

HISPA Held visits in 17 different schools in New Jersey with over 140 profesionals volunteering.

- HISPA partenered with Junior Achievement Community Day to support the 5th grade students from Robbins Elementary school in Trenton, NJ.
- HISPA's Elizabeth Benjamin Franklin School students participated at the Verizon Career Day at Network Operations Center with an agenda full of inspirational examples of technology and career resources.
- Rene Herrera will be honored as the Verizon's ASPIRA "Hispanic Circle of Achievers" for his commitment and service to the Latino/Hispanic community.
