HISPA Kicked-Off Hispanic Heritage month with its yearly Role Model Recruiting event hosted by Merck on September 25th

With over 120 attendees, HISPA Kicked-Off its 2012-2013' Role Model Program recruiting over 40 new Role Models. Words from keynote speakers Tony Alvarez (@Merck) and Carlos Ojeda Jr. (CoolSpeakers.net) inspired participants to volunteer and support our youth.

HISPA San Antonio, Texas starts its Role Model Program this month. 

Herlinda Sifuentes and Mauricio Lemonk are in charge of the launch of the HISPA Role Model Program in San Antonio this October. The first two visits are 10/25 and 10/26 at Anson Jones Middle School and Cable Elementary school respectively. The sponsors of the San Antonio Initiave are ETS and The College Board.

HISPA's annual fundraising event is scheduled for January 10th, 2013 at the HILTON Woodbridge, New Jersey. Over 250 people attended last year and we are expecting even more attendees this year. Get your tickets now and join us in the fight against drop out rates in our middle schools.

HISPA partners with CoolSpeak - A full day workshop was presented coaching role models on how to fully engage students

Over 40 active HISPA Role Models from multiple corporations participated in the certification program titled, "Know Your Role, Model the Change" presented by Carlos Ojeda Jr., President and CEO of  CoolSpeak (www.coolspeakers.net)

Verizon_HSO_School_Supply_Drive_HISPA_community_Partner_Benjamin_Franklyn_School

Verizon HSO and HISPA partnered to deliver school supplies at Benjamin Franklin Middle School in Elizabeth, NJ.

Verizon's Rene Herrera, Cesar Brea and Cesar Rojas delivered school supplies to 21 7th grade students and presented briefly, inspiring students to give a 100% to their studies. See photos here

HISPA as community partner at HPNG Latino Leadership conference (August 27th)

HISPA participated at a one day conference organized by the Hispanic Professionals Networking Group (HPNG). HISPA Role Model, Evelyn Rodriguez was awarded that evening for her leadership and commitment for the community by Ford / HPNG. Speakers included HISPA Role Model, Mariela Dabbah (http://www.marieladabbah.com), HISPA supporter Phyllis Barajas (www.conexion-all.org), and HISPA organization partner Ali Curi (HPNG.net) among others.

AT&T HACEMOS Raising Awareness

 AT&T's campaign "It Can Wait - No texting While Driving" were displayed at the HISPA Kick-Off event  on September 25th as part of our partnership with AT&T's employee resource group HACEMOS.

HISPA partners with New Futuro joining National Latino Education Initiative

On Saturday, October 20, 2012 the New Futuro College Prep Fair arrives to New York. Tens of thousands of Latino families will convene at The Apex at Lehman College for the opportunity to find the tools and resources they need to get their students into college and beyond. More information here

Role Models that inspire us!

Aida Aportela (left photo)
Aida has been an avid HISPA supporter and leader since HISPA's launch. She is phenomenal logistically and her kind smile is infectious.  During the 2011-2012 academic year, she volunteered as a full-time HISPA liaison and Role Model at Don Bosco Technology Academy in Paterson, NJ making sure the program was implemented successfully.  Aida is also a member of the planning committee for the HISPA Youth Conference in Princeton University, the HISPA Kick-Off and Recruiting event and other networking events. Aida is a retiree from Lucent Technologies Inc.

Yolanda Baker (right photo)

Yolanda is naturally innovative and creative.  She led the HISPA Macy's campaign engaging over 50 professionals to support HISPA in just a few weeks. In addition, she is also in charge of HISPA's Three Kings' Banquet since 2012. Yolanda is constantly engaging new role models, brainstorming new technological and fundraising initiatives. She is one of the most active role models and named HISPA's Role Model of the Year in 2012. Yolanda is part of Chubb Group of Insurance Companies. Read Yolanda's bio.
