Working with the Media Raise awareness about your research
Researchers often ask:
How do I work with media confidently?
How do I capture public interest? What aspects of my project should I focus on?
Talking with the media about your research may seem daunting, but it can really help to increase awareness of your work and raise your profile as a researcher. Whether you are being interviewed for a newspaper, radio or television, giving a conference presentation, writing a blog, or tweeting or posting on Facebook, you need to be strategic in how, why, what and when you publicise your work.
The Comms Doctor is presenting three hands-on sessions to help you to do just that!
Day 1: Getting the basics – why work with the media; what makes a good research story; using social media: finding support.
29 March (2 hrs, 1000-1200) Day 2: Planning your message – developing your plan; writing for the media, writing opinion pieces.
30 March (2 hrs, 1000-1200) Day 3: Delivering your message – prepare for and deliver an interview (radio and/or TV); receive feedback and plan the next steps.
31 March (3 hrs, 1000-1300).
Now put it into practice!
