Hello my loves,

In a few days I am going to turn seventy years old. I am not exactly sure what that means but I can say that I am happy to have lived this long. I'm also more than a a bit surprised!! I have come close to dying on several occasions that I am aware of and undoubtedly a lot more of which I am not. I nearly drowned off Zuma beach in 1967. I fell out of the sky in a hang glider in 1978, often drove blind drunk and almost succumbed to alcoholism and drug addiction in the early 1980s. I  have been in dozens of near-misses in traffic all over the world. My heart has continued to beat for the last ten years thanks to a miraculous little device implanted under a muscle in my chest. I would like to tell you that I am constantly grateful to be alive and I take none of this for granted, but in actuality, most of the time that's not true..

My body tires readily now, I make strange noises when I get up from a low chair and sex has gone from being a marching band to a pleasant background chorus. Most of the time I chalk this all up to "the natural way of things" but sometimes it really pisses me off. I particularly don't like the thought that the trend is downward.

Blessedly I don't think about it much.

All in all I have been quite lucky. I find myself turning seventy in reasonably good health (I caught Covid-19 but was asymptomatic) and am able to lead a fairly active life. I often travel to spectacularly beautiful mountain rivers around the world to fly fish for wild trout. I scuba dive in warm, exotic seas. My ample belly is a monument to exceptional food. When the 50 Best Restaurants in the World list comes out each year I am pleased to note that I have been able to dine in many of them. I live in a house close enough to the sea that as I write this I can hear the seals barking and the waves crashing. The climate where I live is nearly perfect.

I have sufficient money that barring a catastrophe there will be enough to finish my days without being a burden on my family. I drive a late model Audi A5 convertible and I have the best kind of large sailboat (one that is owned by my sister and brother-in-law). In my small back yard is a sweet waterfall and pond with 13 magnificent koi, several of which I have had for over 2 decades.

What I value most are the people with whom I share this journey.  I have had a few very close friends with whom I have been able to share my darkest secrets, so that today there is no part of me that is completely hidden from the world. Two kind and generous people call me Dad and seven amazing little humans call me Grandpa. Three wonderful women with sufficiently bad judgement have lived with me and married me. Jaki, who refers to herself as my "last" wife, has graced my existence for over 20 years. She is one of the most remarkable people I have ever met. Her gentleness and kindness is a blessing to me and to all with the good fortune to know her. We are a good fit for each other. We travel the world together six months out of a normal year and share in the wonder and the pain. Most importantly, we help find each other's phones and glasses.I am rich indeed.

In 1987 I fell in love with a bespectacled, banker from Bombay named Ramesh Balsekar. My association with him had a quality that defies description. Through his grace my suffering ended. Today I have the great good fortune to carry his legacy forward and to help ease the suffering of people around the globe.

I don't pretend to be able to predict the future. I may get to live for 30 more years or 30 more minutes. In this moment I am content. There is Peace.

May it find you now.

With much love,

Is there any such thing as free will?  Is everything in life predetermined?  Does God play dice with the universe?

Questions that intrigue seekers of the truth are answered with great insight, sincere earnestness and absolute clarity in Ramesh's typical free-flowing dialogues, spiced with his delightful good humor, during the morning 'satsangs' or meetings with visitors from all over the world.

After the end of one of the talks in California, one of the visitors said to me, "This is my last day, at least in this session.  I am leaving this afternoon.  When I go home, I shall be asked about you and what you talked about.  They will think I am crazy if I tell them that you do not put on any robes, that you speak perfect English, that you were a bank president before you retired, and that your entire teaching is based on one Truth that the entire manifestation and its functioning is an entirely impersonal and self-generated process, and that the sentient beings are merely the instruments (without any volition) through which this process takes place."

I laughed and told him that what he said reminded me of a story I had come across some time ago: As a patient was about to leave a doctor's consultation room, the new patient spun around and shot the doctor a quizzical glance.  The doctor asked her what the matter was, and she replied: "I don't know.  I arrived five minutes early for my appointment.  You took me in right away.  You spent a lot of time with me.  I understood every word of your instructions, and what is more, I can even read this prescription you wrote.  Are you a real doctor?"

Dear my loved Wayne,

On Thanksgiving, I want to deliver my deep gratitude to you, my Guru, Wayne.
It was Grace that I happened to meet you and was absorbed in your teaching and all doubts were dissolved.
Here is the deep gratitude to what has happened, and this gratitude itself is a good gift to me.

Thank you, Wayne.
