Wesley eWeekly

a weekly email about the ministry of Wesley United Methodist Church
From Pastor Jane
I hardly know where to begin, so I'll just heart is bursting with gratitude - gratitude for firemen and EMTs, gratitude for doctors and nurses, gratitude for the people of Wesley UMC, gratitude for Taesung, gratitude for Bishop Suda, gratitude for my neighbors and friends.  Sometimes it's easy to navigate the bumps in the road, sometimes it becomes a little more of a challenge.  This "event" was a bit of a challenge for me and your support has made a huge difference.

The next couple weeks might be a little rocky as I adjust to some new meds, but I intend to be as present as possible.  I am still planning on returning to New York at the end of next week, but what I will do there is still up in the air.  I'm still not sure I'm up for a week at camp, but we will see.

Here's what I know to be true:
  1. Worrying doesn't accomplish much and patience cannot be hurried
  2. Technology is great, but human interaction is much better
  3. Medical personnel deserve an extra  portion of grace
  4. Clergy colleagues are fantastic (no conference boundaries needed)
  5. No matter how old you are, surprises still happen
  6. Life never, ever follows your personal plan
  7. No matter what happens, God is present through thick and thick
May the truth and peace of God fill your hearts as full as mine.  I love you all!!

Ready To Learn Fair
We’ve done the planning and the shopping and are looking forward to helping the kids get ready for a new school year.

We could use a few helpers if you are interested. We will be setting up the tables on the 23rd. Then on the 24th the fair will be open from 9-1.  Volunteers help the kids pick out their supplies.  We have backpacks, school supplies, toiletries, hats, gloves, socks, and coats. And of course that all important back to school haircut!

If you are interested in volunteering, please let me know!

Thanks so much.

Sunday August 14th at Wesley,  after worship, we will eat pie, cobbler, shortcake, ice cream and any other peachy form we can invent! If you aren't a baker, we need our Wesley friends there to sample the tasty creations.
It would please God to know we are appreciating such a gift in loving community.

Carter Hill Orchard and Apple Hill Orchard are two great peach sources. This marvelous idea comes to you from your United Methodist Women.

P.S Bring your chair but not your wallet. The event is free.

Holy God, we gather today not only as your created beings but as your covenant people. We are loved by you and called by you to this house of worship. We thank you for the living presence of Jesus Christ who transforms our human attempts at prayer and praise into divine worship that pleases you. Thank you for your Spirit who empowers our worship. We give you glory for who you are, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and for all that you have done. Amen.

Romans 8: 22 - 27

We know that the whole creation has been groaning in labour pains until now; and not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly while we wait for adoption, the redemption of our bodies. For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what is seen? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words. And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Prayer For Ukraine
We are all aware of the atrocities taking place in Ukraine.  It’s frustrating to feel so helpless as we see people struggle daily to defend their country and stay alive.  We truly want to help, but feel so helpless.  But we are not helpless!
We know, as Christians, the power of prayer.  Jesus has told us many times that He is listening as we ask for His help in all things. So, as a church, may we come together in prayer for Ukraine.
Each day as we are about to take time for lunch, let each of us pause and remember Ukraine and her brave people in a prayer. And we can be aware each noontime that our whole church is lifting up the Ukrainians in prayer, everyone praying in their own way, but together. This is a powerful thing and it will make a difference.
Let us come together as a church to do this.  Thank you all for joining us.
