Helen Wyatt Fryer, age 91, of East Side Drive passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Havenwood Healthcare Center on Easter Sunday evening April 4, 2021.

She was born August 4, 1929 in Naugatuck, CT the daughter of the late Edgar and Blanche (Mauger) Wyatt where she grew up.  After graduating from Teacher’s College of Connecticut in 1952, Helen taught school near Hartford.  She met her future husband, George E. Fryer, Jr. at the Methodist Church in Hartford.  Despite her best efforts, nevertheless he persisted and they were married on June 29, 1957, becoming an incredible team with bonds that grew stronger year after year.  After a wonderful honeymoon on Lake Winnipesauke, they fell in love with NH.  After two years in Concord, they settled in Pembroke NH where they lived for more than 50 years, raising their family of five children and joining in wholeheartedly with the community.  Over the years, Helen was involved in a variety of ways including coordinating the summer youth swim program, treasurer of the School District, and she was part of starting the M&Ms - a senior citizen group “Motivated and Moving”, planning and participating in trips, activities and fellowship for many years. In 1995, Helen and George were together voted citizens of the year!

Helen was also a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for more than 60 years, with a strong faith.  She loved her church family, serving in many different capacities through the United Methodist Women, Sunday School, Evangelism, and Congregational Care. She loved caring for others and keeping detailed records – serving as the membership secretary for more than 20 years, and being the welcoming face that many first met as they came to worship.

Additionally, Helen participated in many other activities with George:  as members of the Concord Coach Square Dance Club, the Wesley Couples Club, and several years of travel in their motor home across the country.  Helen loved to map out a trip, and kept meticulous records, mementos and pictures of all their travels.  Helen loved music, especially opera, classical and church hymns; and she loved flowers of all kinds.

Helen is best remembered for her winning smile, her welcoming spirit, her love of people of all kinds and her ability to keep everyone in line with just a strong look (aka the hairy eyeball).  Her family is especially grateful for the love and care she received from the dedicated and devoted staff at Havenwood.

She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, George Fryer of Concord; five children and their spouses:  Karen Fryer and Gene Kadish of East Thetford, VT; Dennis and Terry Fryer of Hudson, NH; Leslie and Orville Harness of Kokomo, IN; Virginia Fryer and Bryant Stevener and JoAnn Fryer and Rich Rooney of Concord; grandchildren:  Rachel, Emily, Kelsey, Morgan, Abby, Kate, Lauren and Colleen; and great grandchildren:  Karsen, Kinleigh and Adalynn, as well as many members of a large and loving extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents, and her three siblings, Jane Englar, Bill Wyatt and Marian Van Dorsten.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Wesley United Methodist Church or United Methodist Women, 79 Clinton Street, Concord NH 03301 or The Friendly Kitchen, 2 South Commercial Street, Concord, NH 03301.
