PRESTEIGNE FESTIVAL
21-26 August 2014

I'll be back at Presteigne this summer, performing in recital and on the opera stage. Prometheus Drowned is a re-working by Stephen McNeff of an earlier work previously premiered by me at Presteigne and will appear in a double-bill with Airbourne, a new work by Cecilia McDowall. In addition to the performance at Presteigne, the chamber operas will be touring to venues in London, Canterbury and Birmingham later in the year.

In recital with Chris Hopkins (piano), I'll sing Mahler's Rückert Lieder, Charlotte Bray's Fire Burning In Snow in a new piano version, Andrej Panufnik's Love Song (2014 is the 100th anniversary of his birth) and Stephen McNeff's Madrigali dell'Estate (Steve is Composer-in-residence this year).

Vivienne gets a further performance at the TS Eliot Festival at Little Gidding, at the invitation of the TS Eliot Society on 6 July, 2014.
A project that is very dear to my heart comes to fruition next month. I have been talking with specialist British contemporary music record label NMC about various song-cycles written by the marvellous Hugh Wood (above). In addition to the Laurie Lee Songs which I have performed, Hugh has written song-cycles for Andrew Kennedy (Wild Cyclamen) and Roderick Williams (The Isles of Greece). NMC have already recorded some of this material and next month I will be in the studio with Iain Burnside to record the Laurie Lee Songs. Watch this space for an autumn release date for the CD.
Haydn's London Ladies is getting two more performances this summer, in daytime concerts at the English Haydn Festival (8 June) and the Hexham Abbey Festival (25 September).

The Singing Entrepreneur in Belgrade

In March, I went to Serbia with the other directors of The Singing Entrepreneur to give a two-day workshop entitled Practical steps to developing new habits for success as a classical singer. We had been invited by the impressively entrepreneurial founder of Operosa, Katherine Haataja, who knew of TSE's work from its Forum held in 2012. The visit was a hugely successful way for TSE to try out some new workshop material, and a fun two days of sharing experiences and knowledge with a group of talented and open singers. But don't just take it from me - see and hear what they have to say about it by watching the short video below.

To the left are the three directors of The Singing Entrepreneur - Arlene Rolph, Darren Abrahams and me - with our Operosa students, repetiteur Tea Dervišbegović and project founder, Katherine Haajata.
