Fascinators, fedoras, fancy food and festivities – St Jude’s celebrated our 70th anniversary with a tea at St John’s Shaughnessy on September 16, 2018, hosted by the Board’s Fundraising Committee.
The event’s focus was on St Jude’s friends and partners. Board President Jim Longman spoke about the Anglican Church groups who founded the organization and managed the Home for decades. Other speakers Michele Cook (outgoing Executive Director) and Heather Martin (Fundraising Committee Chair) honoured the significant donors, family members, staff and volunteers who had contributed so vitally to everyday life at St Jude’s.
A video about St Jude’s touched the hearts of viewers; it is now available on our website www.stjudes.bc.ca
Recent projects such as the new flooring on the second floor, and the beautiful aquarium were described as especially welcome additions to the building’s home-like feeling.
Recognizing that St Jude’s receives no funding for capital expenses such as building improvements or equipment replacement, speakers thanked all donors, and asked everyone to make St Jude’s their Charity of Choice.
A special thank you goes to the corporate sponsors who helped fund this event, donors who sponsored production of the video, and all those friends of St Jude’s who opened their hearts and their cheque books at the event to give generously for future capital expenses such as elevators and equipment replacement. Donations as a result of this event totaled $32,286.25.
